I see a lot of info on the forums about carb changes etc for the newer keihin Bergs. Are they bad out of the crate? I am hopefully picking up one of the runout 05 Bergs over here in Aus on Thursday so would like to know what to do first up. Suspension set up will be done first by the boys at Krooztune. I saw some stuff about counterbalancer removal and machining piston valve cut outs?? Why (excuse the ignorance)?

My 501 has been awesome, the suspension by Krooztune and the maintenance at Valley Force. So far about 160 hours work and nothing at all major that I havent caused. Love it!

As with all new bikes rejetting for your altitude and temps is recommended. How you choose to rejet is your only question, using and aftermarket jet kit or just using OEM equipment.
As far as counterbalancer removal, that seems to be reserved for the hardcore racers and enthusiasts. It is basically just removing some moving parts to eliminate chances of mechanical failure.
As far as suspension goes, I can recommend that you give the stock suspension a try first before throwing alot of money at it. Every year Husaberg suspension seems to improve by leaps and bounds. I have never so much as touched a clicker on my 04 and am very happy with it for trail riding purposes.

Blunny,

OEM carby & suspension on 05 550 are brilliant - just a few minor tweaks for personal pref. '05 model has a sharper steering rake, so the front suspension needs to be softer on rocky trails. Keihin carby makes for better starting, but it will use more fuel than the 501.
I had the 2000 501 and im glad I bought the 550 - no regrets.

Cheers

Mark
