Hi!
I just got home frome a ride with my Husaberg Fe550 -04.

Something happened with the bike after a corner. The bike started to slow in, just like it didn't have any fuel. But it was plenty of fuel in the tank...

When I finally got it started again, I really had to work with the throttle so it shouldn't die again. I also thought that I heard a bit more ticking from the engine on the way home, and it didn't felt the same...

Any ideas??
 
Sounds like it may be a broken valve spring.

Ok, is that something that can happen that instantanius? How do I see if it's broken? Expensive?

Don't you think that it can be dirt in the carburator?
 
Did you check the carb vent lines and gas tank vent?

Have you pulled the float bowl cap to see if there is a bunch of crap in there?

You would need to remove the rocker cover and inspect the valve springs.

If you haven't cleaned the carb for quite awhile that certainly could be the case. How many hours do you have on it. Have you ever adjusted the valves?
 
i would say an instantanious slowing like that has an instantanious problem so the carb.......no!

broken valve sprung, cam follower bearing etc. either way i would take the fuel tank off and have a look through the tappet inspection covers VERY carefully???

you've also got the decomp stop bolt could have got in the chain.

fact is, if this engine wanted to stop, and you forced it on, well..... you know!

BTW rich, you'll never be my favourite while you have a C.R photo on a husey website!

The bike went ok on the way home, not just barely. It wanted to do wheelies all the time, but there were a small difference. Do you really think that it could be a bearing or chain?

I have ridden this bike for about 10 hours. and the owner before me 90 hours. He did repair the engine because of a big crack in the engine block.

Where do I find the gas tank vent?
Is it a big deal to have the carburater off?
 
I just had a look on my little problem, the valvesprings look fine (no cracks or damage), do I need to measure them to 38.3 mm?

Then I found a huge crack in the exaust system, close to the cylinder. Do you think that can be the problem??

It's on top of the gas cap. Make sure it's clear.

At the very least drop the float bowl cap and see if there is water or dirt in there.
 
I welded the crack in the exaust system today, and it sounded better.

But there is still problem with the idle. I had to adjust the idlescrew almost to the bottom, otherwise it dies.

To me it really feels like some carburater problem... ? Idle jet??
Do I have to disassembly the carburater to check the jets?

Could the ignition have something to do with the problem? The TPS stoped working, so I disconnected it a while ago, but it has run great until now... Is there a way to check the ignition timing?
 
Hello again

I took apart the carburator and cleaned all the jets and holes. Tested again, but same problem.

Then I took off the cylinder head top, and guess what I found? A broken valve spring, just what husabutt first answered :) thanks mate!

But how do I get the broken off? I know that there is a special tool, but that requires to take the cylinder top off.
Any smart ideas to get rid off the spring, and insert a new one without disassembly the top?
 
You could try making up a tool that screws into your spark plug hole ,connected to your air compressor keep it under pressure,this will hold the valve up ,take cam and rocker gear off ,use valve spring compressor to push spring down you might not even have to do that being broken it might all pull out ,cover any gaps so the collets dont go into motor,put new valve spring in use valve spring compressor to push down put in collets,this is how i have done before or you could take head off (break chain all that)

i would have had the head off just to make sure the valves were not tuliping.

o! how i could tell you the tales... the smell, the sight, the lumps of charred metal!

Thanks for the tip pitt, a bit late :)
I changed it without taking the cam off. I used i small jack against the frame to depress the spring, and with the piston in top (just to be sure the valve did not fall into the cylinder. Pushed the valve up through the exhaust. :D :D A bit lurky but it worked...

The bike runs great, do you think the valve could have tuliping anyway? Does that affect the effect? Because it runs better than ever.. ?
 
they do tulip but not anywhere near like they did. you have to completely thrash it in every gear for that effect now.
