2000 fc501 lighting?

Hey guys I am wanting to put a headlight (probably a high output unit), taillight, and possibly some blinkers on my 2000 fc501 this spring so it can be plated (just for backroads tooling around to keep the warden off my back) and am wondering if the stock stator can be rewound to put out this power or if I should just get an aftermarket unit, if it can be rewound to produce the needed juice is it worth it over getting a new one? I saw a stator built by electrex for this model but I don't know about the quality. Any ideas? I just want to make an educated decision, and any help would be appreciated. -Eric
 
The stock stator should have a lighting coil on it with more than enough power to run standard lights. Yes, I know it's an FC. The 01-03 FC's had lighting coils. I think the 2000 had them as well.

Hi Eric,

If you want the full output potential from the stator run the two yellows to regulator rectifier from a KTM LC4 or one from trailtech this will give full power from the alternator to your lights. With the KTM unit you will have to a battery this will also be required for you to run turn signal lighting.

I could comment about Electrex but I wont.

Thank you for the input, Sparks I know your reputation and if I do need a rewind, lets just say you've got my business. I will recheck the stator today and see if it has evidence of said yellow wires, I believe that on my stator there are only three wires leaving it, but I will double check this afternoon and see. It probably needs to be checked over before the riding season anyway.
 
If memory serves me correctly, the stators for the 2000 are the same for the FC and FE.

The flywheels are different though. In an effort to lighten the flywheel for the FC they leave out the magnets necessary for generating electricity.

So check yours.

No flies on you Joe, good point not come across a flywheel like that before.

Ok, so it looks as if I may need to search for a donor engine with the FE flywheel if such is the case on the magnets. I pretty much guessed that it couldn't be too simple.
 
If you order a new FE stator from a Husaberg dealer it will come with a flywheel. Then when that goes out send it off to sparks.

If it is just a flywheel you require let me know i should be able to get you one, I have located flywheels before for the lads on here.

Here is a photo of the 2000 FE Stator and Flywheel.

Note the 2 rims of magnets on the flywheel and the 2 rims of poles on the stator.

The rim of stator poles and flywheel magnets that charge battery and run lights are the ones with 12 poles and 12 magnets. The other rim powers the CDI ignition. If your stator has 2 separate plugs on the leads like in the picture and the one of them has 2 yellow and 1 blue lead going to it then your stator is designed to provide up to 140 watts per the Husaberg specifications

The FC was not specified to include the alternator, and as I remember the FC flywheel did not have the 12 magnet rim necessary to generate the AC voltage like the FE.

Hope this helps. It should take you 5 minutes to remove the flywheel cover to check.

Hey thanks for the help Joe, I will be able to check the unit probably on Thursday. I didn't get to it before, I just had to go riding.. If memory serves me correctly though my stator only has 3 wires leaving it, I will double check to be sure though. So if such is the case, I may need to take Sparks up on the flywheel offer.
 
Alright guys I had my bike disassembled last night putting on a set of supermoto rims that I had gotten and I finally got the whole works together and I went to start it with the kicker and something felt funny, the kicker just sort of bound up and would not kick through or retract, so I put everything away and disassembled it today and found that my kickstarter gear had shed a tooth! I am really glad the bike did not start up because that could have really trashed the whole engine if those chunks of metal had run through it! So now since my bike is going to be sitting for awhile, I am going to disassemble the whole thing and make sure everything is clean and free of particles, which could take awhile and I'll probably replace the mains while I'm at it... I pulled off the stator and it is just like the smaller portion of the one in that picture, and there are only three wires leaving it, a red brown and a green I believe leading to a black plug. So I guess I will be shipping that stator off to you sparks sooner than I thought. I am pretty bummed because I just was getting ready to go try supermoto for the first time this Saturday, but I guess It was better today than when I was out riding. Man those moto rims look great though! So does anybody have a spare kick starter assembly and/or an FE series flywheel that they would be willing to part with?
