I have installed a head and cam from a 2001 501 on my 1994 501 everything went well except I think I have the timing off, so i removed the 3 screws and removed the engine cover to access the stator and there are no holes in the stator cover,to view the timing marks. I removed the nut on the crank shaft and gently tried to pry off the stator cover but it looks like I need a puller, I measured the inside threads and they appear to be 20 mm as close as i could guess, I am stuck, I was hoping to be riding it today , I want to thank you in advance for any help in this , HappyPappy.

The "stator cover" is the flywheel, and you will probably need a puller to remove it. It is keyed to the crankshaft with a woodruff key, so be careful not to lose it. The puller is a Husaberg part #270002-01, is a threaded tube that screws onto the end of the crank, with a bolt in the center that threads in and pushes against the end of the crank.
The flywheel has a small pinhole in it about half way between center and edge for mechanical alignment, IF IT HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED AT SOME TIME OR OTHER.
There are timing marks on the EDGE of the flywheel for 33 Deg. BTDC and TDC, and there is a timing mark on the edge of the case at about 11 o'clock.
For a lot of info, Check into the "Owner's Doc" over in the left sidebar, and in the downloads section for a workshop manual. I have a parts manual for my '98 that says most of the 501 parts are same from '89 to at least '98, and possibly to '99.
Where are you and what model of '94 are you riding?

o contraire, the puller for the early sem flywheel is not a tube, but a male threaded device that screws into the flywheel. it is the same one that fits all the early ktms and huskys with sem or motoplat flywheels. the nut holding the flywheel is lh thread and the puller is rh thread. it is a 26mm x 1.5. the part# fc501 gives is a good one however. i've had mine since the seventies and it has no identifying marks on it.

I've got as many special bicycle tools as I do motorcycle tools - almost as expensive for being lite-weight stuff! Between the different tools for Shimano, Campy, old Sugino and Suntour, plus the normal, super-thin, ground-down-to-fit ....... sheeesh, I oughter open a.................. tool crib!!!!
