Hi Guys,
This 03 FE400 is for sale through a local mechanic/friend, decent price, and is in amazing shape. I'm highly interested but not used to the "Semi-normal" noises of these exotic engines. The horrendous noise is only really at idle, but happens whether warm or cold. Any opinions? I'm terrified frankly. Thanks

prob valve or cam chain related. either way, fixable.
what kind of carb

Sorry I don't have more info, trying to get access to the bike today. The bike was with a few people until it landed with the last mechanic to get the proper valve adjustment. It's quite clean over all, and the mechanic pulled the side cover, believe it was the origin of the noise, and said the clutch basket area was immaculate. It was supposedly "gone through" by a high end shop in California, but you know how that goes..
The bike pulls HARD, and has no other issues, i'm just worried about this noise obviously. He wants $2,800.00 for the bike, which I think is fair minus the noise.
I can't tell the type of Carb from this picture, does anyone have a guess? His paperwork tells him it's an 03'
The guy is telling me a few Husaberg "guys" are saying the noise is normal, and to just forget about it, but I just can't..

dellorto carb (stock) which eliminates carb slide "slap" noise if it was a keihin

Thank you guys. So between the case noise, and the high price, I think I'll have to pass on this one. but frankly I'm sad, as this is the first I've seen in years around here. The bike will require an immediate appointment at the dealership to address the case/chain noise, setting me further back financially. And I don't think this guy realizes that they just don't command the money he thinks; would this be a 2K bike roughly? Thanks.

i put a 87 husky together once and got the cam timing 1 tooth off. it sounded like that. believe it or not, you could see where the valve was kissing the piston but you couldn't feel it

Hello,

Can be that bad, it runs. Very easy bikes to work with & on. Keep it simple & usually the issue is.
Chain slap, possibly!
Valves adjusted incorrectly!
Rocker noises!
Just because it’s been serviced at shop, doesn’t mean it’s been done right.
Worth $2,000, as is, possibly.
If ya like the brand, buy when u can get the chance.
Best luck to ya
