hi.
im new her so dont shoot me if i doing sometingh wrong or when my english is bad, ( come from fox land) :D

Here is my big question.

Can somebody help me with what i should be aware of when i crack open my engine?

Something that must be done before i tear things apart!? or something that should me done while im in ther (line ups, and marking to get the piston and counterbalancer right or something in that road) on a scale from 0-10 in mechanical skills i woud rate me an 6!
so i do know something, but have newer opened a husaberg engine before.

and is it best to do everything with the engine totally out or is it something that should be done before?

my plans are to do most of taffys upgrades so the engine will run nice to the summer 2014 :bounce3:

thanks for answer!

Stooki650 Norway!!

one trick that makes things easier on reassembly is when you have the clutch cover off and approximately at tdc, put a mark on where the crank and cam chain gear engage the clutch. when you put it back together to these marks, it will be in time.
if you are pulling the cam, also put a mark on the cam gear so that it is level with the case top.

what he said! :D :D

check the left/right/left float of the crank and note it down.

also check how high the piston comes up the cylinder. measure over the gudgeon pin on both sides and take the average.

other than that there is nothing that can't be sorted later anyway....

tanks!!

Taffy, check the crank ok! check how far the piston comes up, do you mean without the piston or with the piston on it? and from the top off the cylinder liner and down?

and if somebody have som fancy pictures of the marking regarding to what ned37 said, would be great! :)

Stooki650

yes from the top of the liner down to the piston - with the piston in it!!

nice photos!

im gonna change the cam camchain and maybe the camchain sprocket.
what with the alignement then?

Stooki650

if you are going to change the cam .and gear, it comes with the marks.
and you will have to be exactly at tdc when you make your lower marks. note that the factory dots may not be perfectly aligned at tdc

as part of getting it to start I would

change the cam bearings to sealed
the camshaft to the '08' cam from 2004-8
the steel sprocket of which you spoke
the auto decomp from 2004 onwards
I'd remove the stopper nut and bolt.

this means the only part of the camshaft left that you would use are the bolts

and even then

the bolts should only be used with the later thick washers or grind 2+mm off them!

look for a used 2004-8 cam complete on ebays of the world.

the fing wot stops the feqin auto decomp when it swings art and bangs fings!

gorrit nah?

Taffy

Or fings will end up like this:

so you WERE serious!

the guy above is wrong!

try
a broken decomp
a broken bolt
a tiny broken bolt through the little hole

now that is what I call feqed!

Taffy

Haha. I was partially right! Not seeing any "little bolt" though. Could be the small tablet I'm on.

M5 stoppingbolt broke of (perhaps due to overtightening by a KTM/Husaberg assembly dude  )
Thrashed one M8 cambolt and the weight of the decomp.
Luckily I could find all the bits, no major damage.
