Here's my question:

Is this normal ??? For me there's a lot of metal chip on the magnet... See the 2 pictures below.

My bike is a 2011 FE570S with 2500 miles and 65 hours on the clock. I did the oil change tonight after 25 hours since the last oil change. Before the oil change the bike was running great. After the oil change, the bike is still running great. I have nothing to complain, except that there were a lot of metal parts...

Maybe it's normal, but I don't recall this much metal on the last 3 oil changes...

Any ideas ???

You are not alone, there has been quite a few posts of this nature recently. What you have there is gearbox debris quite normal, what isn't normal is 25 hour service intervals, you need to change the oil a little more often. If you search the site you will find some good information on this.
 
Thanks for the info ! The oil change was my mistake... I did the first at 2 hours, the second at 18 hours, the third at 40 hours and the fourth today at 65 hours...

I went for a long 500 miles ride two weeks ago and realized I hadn't done the oil change... I've put at least 10 hours during that trip... I'll be more careful from now on and change it at 15 hours max...

I'm running Motul 300V, at least I don't cheap on oil !!!
 
No dramas mate, I use a less expensive oil and change it frequently, there some awesome oil threads on here too.
 
HOLY BLACK CRAP OIL BATMAN!! 8O

25hours is way tooooo much for these bikes. They only take a little above 1 liter of oil in and you can only guess how long that stays clean and still lubes well.
I change mine every 5h and filter every 10h. Comes out pretty clean without any shavings. You should check your mesh filter and banjo filter bolt on the head and see are they covered with metal bits.

If you see alot or even any metal in the banjo bolt filter you should start to worry...

While that is your opinion, other people have other experience. It totally depends on how much you stress the bike and how much you heat up the oil.

After initial break-in my team mate Barton has only been changing his oil every 50-60 hours!! That is more than I would personally do, but he has put more than 25,000 kms and 360 hours on his FE570 over the last 5 months without any problems whatsover. For a relaxed trail rider 20 hours will not be a problem.

I don't own the same bike you (2005 fs650e) but I would never wait 20hrs before changing oil. I change mine every 5-7hrs and more often when I go to the track. For your friend to change his oil every 50-60hrs is crazy, I would hate to see his maintenance shedule for the rest of the engine. does he adjust his valves every 120hrs!!!!!

A little bit of metal is normal on the drain plug usually coming from the grearbox and the clutch.

No offence Heli but your 2005 has absolutely nothing to do with the much better designed, higher quality manufacturing/production and tighter QC, longer lasting, 570 engine at the end of it's development cycle in 2011.

In the beginning he actually checked his valves with every oil change but since they still hadn't moved after 170 hours he is only doing it every second oil change now, so 120 hrs sounds about right. :mrgreen:

Still on the originals after 360 hours, too.

That 70° engine sure was special....

quick question: what's the reason they discotinued the 70degree motor again.
 
There were a couple of reason, but certainly not engine performance or reliability.

Mostly it came down to €s, it sure saves a lot of development money and time to just reproduce the orange bikes in blue and stick on a plastic subframe, no need for expensive new tooling to sand cast the engine (to get it as light as the KTM, the 70° engines are too heavy), better economies of scales in production, spare parts supply, etc. The 70° chassis would have needed some refinement as well to stay competitive, the 2012+ KTMs are handling even better.

I have high hopes for Husaberg to get their own bikes again eventually, once the economy picks up and the KTM group thinks they can sell enough bikes to justify the cost.
