My long awaited X2HID light from Trail Tech showed up today. From everything I've heard, this light would be the perfect addition and finally make night time somethink more than a gray time with slightly wierd shapes floating past my peripherals as athat is about all the factory headlamp is good for illuminating.

Well, the light arrived, and I called the Tech line to find out about a specific instruction sheet for my FE570S since the instruction sheet was only for the FE570. The tech directed me to a site for the KTM XCR and stated that would be the same for my Husaberg.

I initiated the installation. Now, please keep in mind that this kit was advertised as "Plug and Play." Of note, is that both the FE570 and the XCR which are also supposedly "Plug and Play," require the entire wiring harness to be disconnected, rerouted, and the harness support to be repositioned and modified. I'm ok with complex engine rebuilds, and I have made amny parts from stock throughout the years, so this didn't intimidate me. I began.

Upon sorting the wiring, and arranging it to the sides away from the area the Trail Tech Light would recess into, I modified the factory wiring bracket and installed it as the directions indicated. That was a joke, the new position only utilized one bolt and was very weak. I assumed it would break within a few mile of serious off road riding. I rigged a bracket to support the bracket. Then with all the wires reinstalled, I attempted to put the Trail Tech light in place. It wouldn't even come close to the forks. It was probably three inches from the correct position and blocked by wiring. I fought this for over three hours today. Finally, I removed all brackets and attempted to install with the wiring just loosely stuffed back and to the side of the lamp. Even then, the headlamp would not seat all the way agains the forks without pushing wiring against the frame where it would rub and develop a short.

A call to Trail Tech was placed. Now, I was informed that the light was not a fit for my motorcycle. Different from both the add, and the instructions from the tech I had spoken with in the morning. I serioously spent over 4 hours trying to install this light in a sanitary manner. I ride thousands of miles off road every year, and I cannot afford to have my bikes wiring rubbing and unsecured when I'm in a remote area literally hundreds of miles from support. I decided to my dealer who was very understanding, and contacted Trail Tech themselves. They called me back to inform me that despite a sales person and the owner of the dealership having contacted Trail Tech and being told that this headlamp would install on my motorcycle prior to my purchase, Trail Tech now informed them the headlamp would not install on my bike.

All in all, Trail Tech agreed to take the headlamp back. It was very frustrating dealing ith the poor fitment of a supposedly "Plug and Play" headlamp that overall took me over four hours of labor without success to attempt to install.

The sad part is that the Trail Tech light would be a great light and with a properly made number plate and maybe a few brackets, it really could be a "plug and Play" unit. Maybe someday. :cuss:

I'm doing the 'Bresslau' later this year and was going to get one of these lights - as was a friend. so thanks first of all for the 'heads up'. can you keep us informed as to what you DO fit?

thanks

Taffy

Here's a few pics from an ADVrider.com post addressing the same problem.

Nice pictures. Can anyone imagine how Trail Tech managed to call that a "Plug and Play" unit. I figured I could have made mounts and done something like that to make the light work, but why when it is sold as "Plug and Play." I think Trail Tech should fire an engineer. I would love to have the light, but I'll wait until they redesign the mounting system or the number plate the light is mounted in.

WOW.. I had the light installed in one hour.. the wiring harness is bent to the side and everything fits perfectly.. Its been in place now for a year and it is solid. ?what is the problem? I think the x2 HID is perfect.. rugged, fits well.. and is plug and play wooohooo score one for Trail Tech

Several things come to mind in response to this post. first, you're maybe not working on the same bike that I am, Second, you're satisfied with a really messed up wiring harness that is rubbing and mounted very poorly, and third, you don't ride too far from home, or your haul vehicle so if there is short in your wiring, you'll be within a few miles of civilization. None of those three things apply to me.

Guys.... update your profiles to show your bikes. Telling us in the post helps, but only in THAT post.

I posted those pictures after reading your original post, because I too had a nightmare fitting the X2
on my bike. It is also a 2011 FE570S. I posted my woe's back a few months ago and got similar
responses about it being soooo easy and how it must be my mechanical skills even the guy from TT
responded saying that if I just went to their website and studied the instructions I would see what I was
doing wrong!!!!! BBBBSSSSSSSSSSSS! I had to completely re-design my wiring hub. IT DOES NOT FIT THE
STREET LEGAL FE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT THE REGULAR ENDURO
MODEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Again, this is a 2011 FE570s, what is the issue here? It fits perfectly.. and I have pounded this machine with this setup in the woods, beaches, motocross tracks.. it just works.. beautifully..

That is exactly how I had the wiring harness as per Trail Tech's instructions. It is No Bueno. That single mount is horribly flimsy and maybe one good trail away from breaking and allowing the wiring harness to flop around and rub on whatever. I'm glad you are satisfied. I tried that exact setup and was not satisfied with the mounting. I tried some other mounting options also, and still could not get the light to sit correctly.

I'm glad it works for you, I wish it was good enough for me. I was really was looking forward to having that light, but I ride a lot of long distances into some extremely remote areas (imagine 150 Miles from civilization without cell service). I can't afford something like the cheesy single bolt harness bracket. I've literally had sub frames crack apart on the stuff I ride, that floppy single mount and all the loose wires were bad ju ju for me.

Looking at your pictures, i just noticed two things, your headlamp is not sitting all the hay back in the correct spot. I guarantee your headlamp case is in contact with your dash or your flasher unit. There is no way that the number plate I had would have allowed the straps to seat on the front side of the forks in that position. Also, your ignition switch is clearing the number plate, I actually had the number plate marked to notch approximately 1/2 inch because the number plate was hitting the ignition switch. There is something different about the number plate you have or it is sitting against hard parts on your bike and the straps are stretched extremely tight.

The top (caudal) part of the top light is contacting the front of the computer (speedometer) bracket. There are 3 points of contact .. left and right posts on the fender, and top back of light against the speedo bracket. The straps are tight. :bounce:

Brian, this is as good as it is gonna get. The Light isnt supposed to fit all the way back. If it did it would aim the beam up too high. This unit is an hid setup and is bulky behind the light. You might want to try the Halogen version of this light as it is not as bulky and prob fits without modifying the wiring harnes (but I dont know for sure) also, polisport makes some really sharp lights.. I dont know .. hope you find a good solution, but believe me, the light doesnt move, is reliable, bright, fits great, and Ive had no issues with shorts or the wiring harness at all. Peace.

So, i have checked Trail Tech's website and this is the listing that I found http://trailtech.net/husaberg-x2-hid-kits.html. This seems to me pretty straight foward and list that the kit is not for the FE570S but instead the FE off road models. I do not have any pics at this time, however I was able to mount my X2 HID on my 2011 FE570S using Trail Tech's instructions for the KTM 530 EXCR headlight, as the Berg and KTM are similar enough that it worked for me. Its a bummer that it wasn't acceptable for you since this light rocks! I understand your comments and that was a well done post with all your pics, but it has to be said that often time aftermarket parts dont always fit 100% and usually take a bit of massaging to work well. Hope you can find a solution for your lighting!

Trail Tech's web site has been updated recently to reflect the light not fitting the FE570S. I wish they would come out with brackets or a new number plate that would fit. I understand the light is great and I'd love to have the light, just not the cheesy mounting. :cuss:

I helped my friend robbo to install the hid x2 on his street legal 570 yesterday. We did away with the steel bracket for the wiring plugs and mounted the relay under the speedo side ways. We then bunched the harness and tied it back to the speedo with cable ties after first making a sheath out of an old HD tube to eliminate any rubbing on the steering head.

We changed one terminal in the plug coming from the light and that was it. Only problem is how to mount the turn signals, the standard ones are now just too bulky to fit anywhere, se we are searching for a compact LED solution.

Awesome light though, will be getting one myself directly.

I think Paul at Highwaydirtbikes is going to come out with a very neat headlight relocation kit that moves the shell about 1.5" further forward. This should solve all interference issues with headlights other than stock.

The above is a prototype so I will try to post some pictures of it fitted to my 2012 FE570 this weekend. I also switched to the KTM style mask (stock on some US Bergs, same as the 500 EXC in blue?) in order to use the new Baja Designs Squadron LED light.

Please keep me posted about these kits. When you have it installed, please post a picture. I'm interested. Just did 800 miles with some riding at night, I need a better headlamp.

I solved the problem. Vision X solstice LED lamp. It draws 10 watts, 3/4 of an amp, and provides 900 lumens. I/3rd the price, great light, and 2x 2x 2.5 inches. Good quality, great construction, and simple to install.
