that is the 'silver Eagle' or something like that that was offered as a tune up carb for the bergs of that era.

i've never seen a bike with one on but have seen onr on a shelf.

got a suspicion they weren't all that good.

That, my friend, is an Edelbrock carb. I've installed a few on XR650r's.
Edelbrocks are easy to adjust (No main, pilot, etc ), just the needle.
That big knob on top is the fuel flow adjustment- screw in for leaner, out for richer. There's a screw on the right side that controls inital pump squirt, set it at about 1 turn out for starters.
They usually come with three needles, high elevation (Lean), mid elevation (Normal) and rich (Racing mode- uncorked).
The best thing about the Edelbrock is you can run it upside down like an aircraft carb..what does that have to do with bikes? After you crash, the bike fires right back up, no flooding.
The biggest snag I ran into was top end performance- get it set up to work perfect off idle & mid, kinda fell flat on top, and vice versa. Too much to ask for by simply turning a screw.
Contact Edelbrock, they have tech's on hand that are happy to answer all Q's.
If your really into racing, contact Rob Barnum at "Barnum's pro racing" he's the guru behind this carb, and a great guy too boot.

Thanks for all your information.
I think I can have a good deal on this, but I don't know if its any good for a FE400 '02.
Could it be better then the FCR ??
Please give me your advice.

I think I had an Edelbrock 700CFM Double Pumper Square Bore on me 350 Chevy in 1986. I think it was a Holley that was blue printed by Edlebrock. Could be wrong. Pulled 411HP on the engine dyno. I remember that. Also remember the smell of burnt Av Gas at 6,200RPM when I was skiing behind it was nice

I can't imagine it being better than a well setup FCR. FWIW I have just got an FCR up and running on my DR650. I put some effort into its stock BST40 and the first pass guess, with help, on the FCR is heaps better.

not likely. there was a reason that husaberg didnt sell many of them even when they were offered in the hard parts catalogue...

only carb you want to be finding for that '02 400 for off-road riding is a 39mm fcr.

also shows i was way out with the "silver eagle" name. It was actually 'quicksilver' - knew silver was involved somewhere.

once you stick edlebrock into the search it start to bring up some of the old threads

My 98 600 came to me with a Quicksilver Carb. 38mm I believe. I worked with it for about a year and I could never seem to get it quite right. On street runs the motor would starve for fuel and die. Wait a few minutes and it would fire up and run normal. I switched to a Delorto, still looking for that final adjustment but it does run better than the Quicksilver. If I get bored this spring I may switch them and see what the difference is.

Thanks for your help with all of your experience.
I'm going to try to buy a used FCR39 from a WR400, because I'm not completly pleased with the dellorto, its ok for my 600 '98 because it has power to give away, but not for the 400, specaly in mid-low rpm.

Thanks again

try and avoid the 99 + 00 WR, the 99 YZ and go for after those dates and the later carb. by now those carbs are getting well worn and they suffer from cracking face plates on the slide. the Mk1 is known for the external pump rod being under a black gaitor on the right side and is very visible.

The 39 I got for my DR was brand new and cost me just less then $300 delivered from ebay last Dec. A relative bargain. Jetted etc, well less than $400 for a brand new carb. It was most likely ex Polaris and was setup only for an opening cable. Easy enough to fix, but not so easy to limit the AP as there is no boss to drill and tap, so another solution with a leak jet required.

Steve

Thanks for the advice Taff

So I can understend the MK1 is no good ???
I'm sending to images, please tell me whitch one is the MK1 and The MK2

FCR 1 is a Mk1, FCR 2 is a Mk2 - different AP actuation. I have a MK1 on my 501.

If the MK1 is in good condition, as the one in the pic appears to be, it should be OK.

But do you use a 39 in your 501 ??

Best
ZAGA

Yes, from a WR400, quite some years ago now. Some pics in my gallery. The 650 is a 41.

In my search for the FCR 39 I met a guy that says he has FCR carbs sizes 38, 40 and 41.
Please advice if for the 400 the 39 is the one or if it can be replaced by another one of these sizes ???

Thanks

I've never heard of a 38 or 40 FCR, but maybe they are out there.

My understanding is that a 39 would be preferred for the 400. Maybe even a 37 which are fitted to MX 250s would be OK if your riding style is not revving flat out all the time. The higher gas velocities can make for more precise jetting and throttle control. This is why I have a 39 on my DR650 and not a 41. Bigger is not always better.

Steve

From what I uderstood the carb the guy says its a 40, came from one YFZ450 (its a quad).
I searched the web and I think this is a 39, but with some differnces, don't know what, but it had something to do with TPS block, and jetting I think, couldn´t realy understand but its all in this link:

http://mxrob.com/FCR_Install.htm

Its the history of a instalation of a carb from one YZF450 in to a DR650.

Can you give me some light in to this ??
