Just bought a 40mm FCR off a 05-07 RMZ450. Very clean and looks to be in great shape. Hot start cable included. Been digging around trying to find an intake that will angle the carb to the right side getting it away from the exhaust. I'll look for an add on filter and plug the original hole in the frame. Or use it as a "glove box" for my reg and insurance!

Also been digging around for a starting point for the jets/air bleeds but most of the info I find is for a 41mm. I took the bowl off to check the numbers but I'm not that familiar with each circuit. The hex brass piece has 172 on it and the main rod has NCY R on it with the clip in the middle (4th) position. Small jet to the side of the main in the bowl area says 75. Air bleed on the other side says 45.

I'm sure it would be a good idea to fit some sort of bellmouth to smooth out the airflow but it isn't removable like my dell. Also read about limiting the acc pump stroke by putting in another set screw into a "tab" but this one doesn't seem to have a tab.

I need to work out the mounting first. I want the tune close then planning on taking it to the shop for fine tuning.

Any help is much appreciated!

I do a jetting kit for that carb even though it isn't a Husaberg carb. I do a con filter to go on as well. regards a belmouth well it just isn't going to happen fella!

as for the APJ limiter, that comes in the kit.

you even have too small a choke jet so you should speak to me directly and get the correct one added to your kit.

How do we get it connected to the intake without boiling the fuel in the outlet?

lean the carb 5 degrees over to the left (top end).

slice 5mm off the inlet rubber and the lips and grooves should all come good. you do the maths (there is an S on the end in 'real' english!!! LOL).

as for the inlet. you can machine a little off the end at each end. take it to an engineer and ask him to get it in further and then machine the end off.

we have crossed wires here. I'm on about the original Dell orto rubber? how else were you going to make the carb fit?

That's the one. I trimmed it as you said.

I've never seen anyone notch the rubber for the location tab!

well done! :D

looking at it in the dark I thought you'd used an '04+ OEM rubber!

Got my Taffy jet kit installed and new gaskets installed. I wanted to keep the use of the stock filter boot. Since the fcr is shorter than the dell orto and cutting the stock intake moved it even further away from the boot, I needed an adapter. My fcr is a mk2 and doesn't have the removable bellmouth so I found this adapter from Noss Machine.

Just grind off the lip on the filter side and check the fit.

It was a very snug fit so I only used grey sealant so I could still remove it later on if needed. You could use epoxy if you aren't worried about taking it back off.

Overall it makes it a little longer than the original set up but I can put the adapter further into the boot.

Well, got it all bolted up, filled the fuel bowl up, checked for leaks and started it. Took it down the street and back. HOLY SH!T!! The torque off idle is really scary now! Can't wait till I get it tuned.
 
I told you it was good! :D

notice the lack of Vibration in the bike? makes a big difference!

keep me posted as to the testing, as you've gone public with this (I admire your first-up confidence that this was ALWAYS going to work!) as we can't afford it to be anything but perfection now can we?

Got everything bolted up. Had to go from 1.5 turns out to 3.5 turns out on the pilot screw to get it to idle. Bike was heating up quickly at idle and the fans would not cool it down like they did before. Idling lean even with 3.5 turns out. Has to be an intake leak.

Looking at the intake at the head, there may be a slight gap at the top. Looks like the carb adapter I'm using is pushing the back of the carb down because it's too long. I will probably need the Taffy aluminum intake and the angled rubber to get the back of the carb pointing down to clear the filter boot.

Seems to pull as before or maybe a little better on the main jet but I'm sure once the leak is fixed it will be too rich.

well it can be that, it can also be that all else is good and the pilot is too small?
3.5 is too many for ideal even if the bike is running well.

True. I listened for the air leak with my stethoscope the other day but didn't hear anything. I'll try the carb cleaner test in the same spot next and if I don't hear the idle change it will have to be the PJ.

There is a 40 in it now and I do have the 45 that I took out of it originally that I can try. Think it will be too much?

are you sure you've done all the tests?

a classic yanky mistake is that they think the needle clips are counted FROM the pointy end! :oops: :oops:

you count the needle clips the way a needle would hang in the carb so clip 1 is about 1mm from the blunt end. I think we recommend clip 8.

The clip is in the last slot from the blunt end as it should be. So much of the blunt end is sticking up out of the retaining screw that I could barely get the allen wrench in to tighten it.

The confusion probably comes from you Brits driving on the wrong side of the road so we assume that you do everything backwards! :D
