selecting

Hi I'm having problems selecting neutral on my 2004 FE450. When the engine is running it is virtually impossible to select. If I cut the engine then neutral is easy to find. Has anyone experienced this or is it something easy to fix? Also I'd like to adjust the clutch to bite further...
