screen or strainer

I changed my oil for the first time this last weekend, I pulled the oil screen out of the bottom by the oil drain plug apart and cleaned it out. So when I got the oil return screen/strainer out I pulled it apart, I discovered there isn't any O-rings on it. So I figure that it isn't suppose...
