resetting

I have a brand new '09 FE 570. I have noticed that the computer resets itself multiple times in a single ride. The trip meters and clock loose all data, but the odometer and hour meter still work normal. Any ideas what would cause this on a brand new bike?

I need to reset the spring on my kick starter. Last winter when I had the bike apart I indexed the kick start shaft at least a half turn too much in the counter clockwise direction. I can use the kick starter but it will not return on its own. Today I took it apart hoping to pull the shaft...
