10w40

Just bought my 2010 FE450 and was wondering if i can run some Motul 5100 10w40 4T Technosynthese oil. I have a jug of it laying around that i used for my MX bikes. I know the specs say I should run 10w50 synthetic, is there a big difference between the two.

Motul 300V is probably the nicest oil available locally for a reasonable price. Manual says 10W50, but they don't make 300V in 10W50. They do have 10W40 and 15W50. The climate here is mild and cool; I think it's safe to say that the bike isn't going to be used outside the temperature range 0-20...

hey guys, i've been using BEL-RAY 20w-50 oil in my 2005 fe450e and now that here in australia its in the cooler months i switched to the 10w-40 and when the bike is idling(hot or cold) and i give it a rev its seems to be burning oil,bit fof smoke,is this normal with 10w-40?
