Hi All,

Just MOT'ed and got Numberplates back on my 650 Today..... And found that the bike wasn't the one i thought i bought some 3 months ago,.. Maybe

The Chassis defenately has a "3" as digit no 10. I bought it as an 2002 !! On the old registration cert it had a "2" and number 10, but they mus have gotten it wring at some point. So it must be a 2003 model ????..... But the engine must be an 2002, as i have the bridge arm across the valve inspection holes. And I don't have the coolant bleedscrew. (These where the only items i directly could find out from reading the Doc's, as i don't have any bike to campare with for size of axels, shouldered dowels and so on...)

The engine number i can find is on the right RHS of cylinder... 651 2 772 - This number makes NO sense to me when consulting the doc's !!! ????

Where is the correct engine number read.. ??? And how can i clarify if i have an 03 bike ??

BTW, Just startet up my bike yesterday after a GOOD upgrade, insisting on getting the E-start to work !!! More about this later in "MY STORY"

Thanks for your help,

Anders, Denmark

I always wondered about my bike too, the engine number definatly says its an 03 model but its compliance plate is definatly 02, it doesnt have the engine bleed screw but has the digi speedo so I dont know what it is. cheers matt

Hi All,

Nope, I newer gor it figured out, still as confused. But I would very much like to know ! At some point it's gonna be ha hassle when ordering part that don't fit...

handy thing is that 99.9% of the parts are going to be the same i would have thought.
so i wouldnt worry too much

True enough, it's not likely to be a big problem.

But i would still ike to know what kind of bike I am riding !!!!! And why do I want to knoe ????

JUST BECAUSE !!!

Please please tell me know... Was that not Duran Duran BTW ??

well from looking at the numbers you've put up the engine is a 2002 650, but we already know that anyway.

the number "651...." you quoted is similar to the one i had on my very first berg an 03' 400 and it was explained by dave clarkes that the first 2 gave the engine sized ie 65 is a 650, 55 was a 550, 50 was a 501 and 40 was a 400.

thats how i found out mine was a 400 not a 501, that i thought id bought.

then the middle number was the year, so in yours its 2002.

only explanation i can think of is that husaberg went to the ktm engine numbering, as listed in the doc, when they stopped stamping the engine number in the side of the cylinder

what size is your front axle?

if it is 26mm then its very likely, unless the forks have been changed to earlier ones, that your chassis is 2003.

so there are two options;

1. your bike is a very early 2003 and the built it with one of the last of the 2002 motors

or

2. someone has done and engine / chassis swap.

what is the 7th number of your chassis number?

for example my '06 450 reads ".....4006....." which indicates a '06 450.

That makes pretty good sense there cypher. 8) I have been noticing on close up pics of 'berg engines in for sale ads and what not that the first two digits matched the first digits of the engine size.
So.. on my FC470, the number is 4732018. 47=470 3=? 2='02 018=last three digits of my frame number.
Would it be safe to assume that my bike was the 18th FC470 built in '02? Starting from the 10th digit the frame number is 20000018. That would explain the '01 parts found inside the engine.

Bruce

Cypher, thanks,

Yes the explanation must be something like that..... Mix of years, maybe because mine is an early 03 model with a 02 engine. My last digits in Chassis number is 0006. So maybe the 6th in 2003.... My bike's got to be worth a lot of money one day with a combination like that !!!!!

I'm offshore at the mo' so measure my axsels another day.
