So, when I use this on the Valve Cover to (hopefully) stem the oil leak is there anything I need to know? Or do I just apply it like I would any other gasket sealant?

Thanks..........

Dhammadad,

I have been using Yamaha Bond or ThreeBond 1211 both are a silicone liquid gasket. On both center cases and valve cover. Most resent Permatex Copper Spray Gasket on a new head gasket to stop coolant leakage around the head to center cases.

I don't know your real name and whether you got the RTV idea from me but my advice is; don't deviate away from it, nothing touches it. Yamabond etc fall out the side.

I can't recall where I got the idea - may have been in here. I am thinking its best to use it all round the cover rather than just in one place - surely that will run the risk of an uneven surface?

even I remember the conversation and i'm old and forgetful now!

To repeat;
build it up with a layer in the corner that is low, let it dry, THEN, do the hole cover.

that should do it.

Thanks again, trouble with leaks as you know is they might look like they're coming from a certain point but they ACTUALLY start two blocks around the corner! I'll give it a go and keep me fingers crossed!

Permatex Ultra Grey is the only product I have used that provided a perfect seal on the rocker cover. You know you have applied the correct amount when a nice, even, unbroken, small bead is squeezed out when you tighten the rocker cover bolts. Do not over tighten and squeeze all of the gasket material out. Let it harden overnight before running the engine.

How long will it take to dry? Over night?

Thanks!

i used to leave it two hours. it was hard enough that the NEXT smear of silicon didn't fall off.

Ta! I not near the bike again now until tomorrow so that would have been a good 14 hours. See how it goes.
