Had recent trouble starting my Fe400e,adjusted tappets (closed) all good. One ride (4 hours later) bike did not want to start again.Checked tappets and lo and behold the gap has closed.I'm not a mechanic but does this mean worn valves ?

not necessarily. without knowing anything about where you are or the year of the bike (because you didn't put it in yer signature  ) most likely it could be cam follower bearings or cam bearings. how long since they've been checked?

i think on one of the two occasions you didn't have the engine at TDC on the compression stroke.

please always take the ignition cover off and see the mark come around to the 12 o clock position.

also undo the decomp spring outside the head.

also, undo both at once.

after 38 posts you still haven't sorted a signature or location..... come on mate - get it sorted.

regards

Taffy

you most probably have trouble with your cam followers if you adjusted your tappets the right way.
