I am planning to convert my FE650 for out and out racing and would like to get rid of the electrical clutter i.e. starter, battery, wiring harness using the principle that the less you have, the less that can go wrong.

Can anyone supply a basic wiring diagram that I can rig up the alternator, ignition, kill button etc?

streamlined electrical

Roy, get a schematic for your bike(In downloads I believe). You can remove all the electrical associated with lights, starters, key switch, etc. Basically, the ignition wiring and kill button will be all thats left. I just did this on my FX470 and if you can follow a wire diagram it is easy.

Thanks Bendberg...just came across the downloads and reviewed the schematic. I thought it just might be that simple, but best to ask those who have already done it in case they ran into problems....

Did you remove the battery/regulator etc?......do the yellow/blue wires from the stator need any special termination or are they just iindividually isolated?

Thanks again, Roy

You can remove the battery, regulator, rectifier (if seperate) and anything else that runs off the 12V system. Just leave the 12V charging wires from the stator disconnected.

Leave the CDI/coil connected as normal but replace the kill switch circuit on the orange wire from the CDI with a single pushbutton kill switch.

May I suggest you take notes & get lots of photos as you remove bits and store them securely to ease its reconstruction when you later sell the bike.

electrical

Hi Roy, I took the wires from the generator/alternator and shielded them individually with shrink tubing and electrical tape, then wire tied them out of the way. I left the rectifier on the frame but, it can be removed also.I removed everything else, battery and the wire harness that went to the key switch and hi/low switch(ignition defaults to hi). Referring to the wire diagram I have, you should have two yellow wires and a blue wire. The blue wire is a ground, to be safe remove and protect this wire also. This will protect the generator in case one of the yellows gets to ground. As you saw in your wire diagram it is real easy.

Thanks for the help guys.......side cutters are already at work!
