Snow in the hills means time to put the bike away and break out the sleds. I'm new to owning a bike and want to make sure I winterize correctly. What is the proper way to store my 03 501e?

No doubt there is a good one liner in the phrase "snow in the hills" and Stiff Bubba, but I shall refrain and reply to your query.
The Berg manual suggests that you should clean your bike well and change the oil c/w paper filter and clean the small filter.
Next turn the fuel shut off to off and start and run you engine until it quits.Drain the fuel in the carb and also drain the fuel tank dry.
Remove the battery and charge it
Check antifreeze strength and top up as reg'd
Put a few cc of oil down the spark plug hole and turn the engine over a few times.Replace the plug.Place piston at TDC(both valves closed) Correct tire pressures and lube any pivot points
Store in a dry place not subject to temperature flucuations and cover with a breathable cover.....
Wait for spring...........nsman

I was going to call my dealer for this advice, now I don't have to.
Thanks for the info nsman.

Some other things to think of is Sta Bil for the gas with a full tank so it will be fresh come spring and instead of the oil in the cylinder use a fogging oil. You spray it directly into the intake while running until it stalls out. You still spray it in the cylinder after the stall out and do the same as you would with just oil. The fogging oil will help protect the top end better than just the oil in the cylinder alone. The most important thing to remember is that once you winterize do not start them back up until your ready to pull them out or you have to fog it all over again.
