hi, i am going to be running a track kit on my 570 this winter and i'm wondering about the engine oil. original recommendation is 10w-50. i would run 0w-50 if i could find it but cannot. closest i can find is 0w-40 synthetic. so my question is if anyone can tell me logically if this will be good or bad to run in the engine when using it in temps down to -25 degrees celcius.

Riding the berg at -25 C??
You must be joking?I always use the 5W50 Putoline syntec4+.Don't know if that will stay liquid enough with these temps,I am sitting in front of my stove and a hot chocolatemilk with these temperatures.Call me a wuzz,I don't care.

We just use a good quality synthetic and let the bikes warm up. We ride single track in snow with spikes, so the bikes tend to get quite hot.

We don't ride much below -12 C (10 F). We have had problems with suspension seals below that.

I have seen both fork and shock seals go when riding in the cold.... Changing your fork oil to 2.5 is a really good idea, it helps, and the forks will actually work.

Unfortunately it is usually the shock seals that go. I have seen more on the old style bikes, but a few on the +09's. It seems that if you let the bike warm up it helps, the exhaust pipe tends to warm the shock.

I think the biggest thing is to just make sure the bikes have a chance to warm up before riding, if you are doing high speed sections, let the bike warm up again after a little while. As long as the bike can stay at a decent operating temp, you should be ok.

well thats some sort of good news. i have to do the fork seals before i ride it so i'll switch it to 2.5w while i'm doin those. the shock seals dont matter because i wont be using the bikes rear shock with the track kit. does anyone have any opinion about running 40 weight engine oil instead of the normal 50?
