Hello all.

A couple days ago I started up the bike for the first time since last autumn. And I find the noise from the engine is a little wierd while idling. The sound I am referring to is the sharp noise in the video below. What can this be? Am I looking at something big, or is this a small thing?

When you are talking about the starter gears. You are meaning on the e-start, right?

And to be specific, it is the Free Wheel? (part number 26)

Thanks mate, will look into it.

Will it damage my bike in any way if I don't fix it immediately?

I have dismounted the starter and gave it a few punches with a plastic hammer to assure nothing was stuck, and tried to start the bike up again. The same noise was still running. I also tried knocking on the e-start while the bike was running, with no result. Gonna try force back the gear tomorrow as a last resort.

But if it is the e-start that is broken, would it be best to open it and rebuild the whole thing? Or should I look for a completely new starter? I've seen some people have fit starters from Honda CBR's on their bikes. Would this be better than one of the original Husaberg starters?

Edit: Or is it the sprague bearing/starter gears that is making the e-starter not disengage?

I think its the Sprague but you have removed the starter and it still makes the noise. That is baffling.

Sorry, now I see the typo in my last post...

I removed the starter, but put it back in.

And Im gonna talk with my dealer today about buying a new sprague :)

I tried to disassemble the engine, but did only get to the point where I removed the pressure cap and the clutch discs.

Then I got to the nut and lock washer that holds the inner hub. As shown in the video below I can't get it off since the inner hub is rotating with it. Where did I go wrong? :(

Thank you

it's a good thing you can't get it off. BEFORE removing the outer part of the clutch, with the engine close to or at tdc, take a marker pen and index the gears where they meet so you can properly time the counterbalancer. (see pic)
i'd also recommend removing the barrel shaped clutch plate drivers before they fall out and end up inside the crankcase.
i use an impact (either electric or air) to remove and replace the nut.

run the bike with both starter gears out.

also, while you are there, look inside the clutch drum and at the part cose. it may well finish .......100 this was upgraded twice to ......500

Im not going to remove more than the outer clutch hub, do I still need to do this?

But how should I approach this when the inner hub is spinning with the nut?
Should I cram a rag between some of the gears to force it to stay still?

anytime you pull the outer clutch, do it. takes a second. good insurance.

if you have no choice but to do it manually, try putting it in gear, jamming something in the front sprocket and whack the tool your 31mm socket is connected to (breaker bar? ratchet?) with a good size hammer.
impact tools are great!
just make sure nobody films you for youtube.;)

I finally got the outer clutch hub off!

What I saw on the e-start gears, was that nothing looked worn of any kind,

and the spring on the free wheel sprag was not loose, it felt pretty tight.
