I have been lurking around the site for awhile now asked a few questions and such. I am not a Husaberg rider YET! I am interested to hear why you ride a Husaberg and not something more mainstream.
Is it you think the Bergs are better?
Just as good so why not be different?
I can think of plenty of reasons to ride something more mainstream convenience mainly.
I do know that this site has some weight to making my next bike choice.
It might be interesting on how you made the first Berg purchase?

Why

What can you buy that has 550ccs that is main stream? The Bergs turn like a Suzuki RM250 and can be as gental as a XR600. When you feel the need for speed there is not a bunch of bikes that can run with a 550.

Why be like the rest of the sheep when you can have them for dinner?

The Bergs are easy to work on,and they were the first to compete with 2 Strokes and thus changed the sport forever.

Reliability is very good now,so no worries in that department. :D

RE: Why

I got a berg cos there was little else that came with the specs of the FS650e and was road reg.

I priced up a conversion of a dirt bike to motard and the berg was cheaper to buy than a converted bike.

There are many reasons that tell us why we should NOT own a Berg. The best way to explain it is to throw caution to the wind and just buy one..... You will not be dissapointed.

Where are you? find a dealer offering demo rides, or ask a local to you member of the UHE if you can "maybe" take one for a spin. there will be no need to ask any more questions...

seriously though, the modern berg is as reliable, if not more so, than any other bike of the same caliber out there. That- coupled with it's superior handling, top notch parts right out of the crate, the maddening power from way down low all the way to the top, and the ease at which you can access the motor for maintenance( and the simpleness of the motor).

and when you take it to all these riding places filled with the "little people" and their puny little 450's you can laugh and taunt them with roost as the say "hey is that one of them there hussa-bergs?" :)

I rode a few honda's and KTM's before buying my first berg... but one ride was all it took, I was hooked.

I know how you feel. I thought the same before I bought a 04 FE550e. But after a lot of deep thought on the subject I came to the conclusion that the Berg would be the best buy.

The final deciding point; there are dealers almost everywhere. I have had nothing but great support from my dealer and from the people on this site. Another thing is when you deal with a Berg dealer they know you. You buy any other brand and you are just a customer at the parts counter.

Next is the fact that when you buy one they are ready to go. No need to change anything or “upgradeâ€Â

A Berg will finally unlock whatever talent that lies within, as no further excuses need to be entered into. The bike is as good as it's gunna get ( on earth ! ) so it's just left up to you & your talent.

The advert is true... Buy a berg & smoke your mates on the weekend !!

I was in the same situation about a year ago. Had a KTM525, yz426 - all great bikes. Was about to upgrade the 525 to the same, went for a ride on a few latest model ones - great bikes cant knock them at all...A Berg dealer then let me test ride a '550, after a short stint on a bush track I came back with a big smile on my face and bought it, for the FUN factor. My brother.. orange man through and through was about to update his 525 of 3 years.. I lent him the berg for a weekend and when he came to return it on Monday he had 2 bergs on the ute.. he liked it so much he went and bought one... same reason for the fun factor. They are just fun to ride. I think it has alot to do with the short-stroke motor revving up so quickly.

always liked them since i saw the first one in the uk in '89.
their different fom the crowd.
handle well.
smooth engines that allow you to get away with being heavy handed (well my 400 does anyway)
cheap second hand in the uk.
generally fun bike to ride.

I baught mine cause it was 3 grand cheaper than the KTM and had all the upgrade options already fitted. The only thing I don't like is the left foot kick. after 3 years I still can't do it left footed. But I have the magic button on the hangers.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!

I have to agree with wildman on the advert saying,"... Buy a berg & smoke your mates on the weekend !!" I bought mine this fall. It is a 2000 fc501 and went out riding with one of my buddies that has an 2006 kx450f. My berg being 6 years older (granted with few hours on the bike) still smoked his bike. Bergs are animals!
When I first got the bike I had to rebuild the hydraulic clutch (the rubber o-rings had dried out from sitting while the previous owner had it) but that was only a 30 dollar fix and I was up and running. Buying a bike that is "tricked out" from the factory is way cheaper than doing it yourself, and leaves you more time for playing!

I have been riding Husabergs for fourteen years now. The primary reason is that I like the bikes. They are fast, fun, and get the job done with with a little something extra, character. Yes, I do like having something different than the mainstream bikes. I also like very much seeing how they are designed and built. While not every component over the years has been perfect, the bikes have always shown a bit of brilliance in the design. My 2000 FE501 came with two beer bottles in the crate, so I know they are built by people who are not factory drones (at least back in 2000). But most of all, I love to ride them, they put a smile on my face.

I want to know if you kept those bottles!

Nope, should have though. Two of us were there to pick up our new Bergs, it was worse than Christmas morning, the anticipation! Tossed the bottles after getting a good laugh.

I've been riding dirt bikes for over forty years. I've never ridden anything that went fast so damn easy as a Husaberg. That's it!

I bought on blind faith that my friend (who is a dealer) would not steer me wrong, and would back me after the purchase. I bought the bike and found that it was better than I possible could have imagined...and that's coming from 2 KTM 625SMC's and a 525SMR... The Husa is amazing! Actually, I studied the service manual to convince myself that the motor was not driven by voodoo, and once I convinced myself I could take it apart and put it back together if I had to, I wrote the check. Won a lot of races and passed a lot of sporty bikes since then :D

Thanks for the input and Buzzard that is a great story about the bottles. I was curious to hear why and how people came to Husaberg. I enjoy riding something different sometimes it take a little more work, my current ride is a TM and I am one of the lucky ones to live within an hour or so of Dan & Ann at Motoxotica.

Keep the info coming.

The best part is... the Husa is not more work. I think it is comaprable to better-than the competition in all respects except all the questions you will have to answer from people who see the bike and have to know what it's all about :D

HEAR HEAR!

I needed a second bike a 450 as I had a Husky 510, so Dan sat me on the Husaberg 450 and I liked it. Now that I know the breed, in a few years it will be very hard not to stay with husaberg. we shall see when thatt day comes. The Husaberg 450fe became my woods bike of choice. the 510 was my open trails bike of choice. I love the 450 in the woods and will be torn next time between the 550 and the 450.

I don't like the FE450 in the wide open desert, but in the woods it's a dream machine
