Hey all. Just come in from an epic 4 hour 200km ride. rained the day before..minimal dust very nice.

Anyway chain and sprockets shagged. Anyone got a recommendation for a long wearing set......? thanks

I don't know if it is available in Aus. but check into Sidewinder they have gotten some great review and their stuff looks awesome

I never use an alloy rear sprocket they just wear to quick thus leaving to big a gap for your chain to sit in to quickly, if you go somewere like matchams park with the odd marble sized stones you can kiss goodbye to ally teeth very quickly. Off road only do some good priced kits with free courier delivery in UK

Sidewinder actually uses 'Stealth' composite sprockets, which are available for less than 1/2 the price that Sidewinder charges.

IRONMAN I think they are even garenteed. Never used the garentee but mine lasted forever

Supersprox "Stealth" sprockets as supplied by KTM/ Husaberg in the Hardparts/ Force catalogues are currently being offered in Australia by an independent importer for APPROXIMATELY HALF THE PRICE that KTM/ Husaberg charge for apparently? exactly the same thing.

There is an ad in the latest ADB for them- $99 AUD.

I've used these the last 2 times- excellent wear rate.

I run the Srealth Srocket 48t on my 06 Fe650
Chain: DID VR3 , No masterlink

It is a x-ring and there strongest chain, The weakest link is the master link on any chain.....

Gee-Bee

Best price on the Stealth is from a KTN dealer 58.50
Chain is about 105.00

All this stuff is cheap when you compare to the cost for my airplane....

Hanger ( storage )575.00
Insurance 3600.00 per year
Fuel 4.85 per gallon x 225 gallons ( 18 gal per hr )
Payment per month: Ouch

for the rear use a steel unit

for the front use a JT sprocket , these last a long time . the fit on to the countershaft is very good , which is critical . they are the 1/2 the price of the oem .

a good quality brand o' ring [or x ring ] chain last well , the secret for long life is to clean the chain and sprockets after each ride .
the reason i say o'ring is that i have one on my FE650E , and it has not stretched much at all , the wear rate is acceptable .

it's all about maintenance \:D/

Thankyou for the feedback, its amazing how much info you get from one post on this site. pat on the back to all!! We should all organise a husaberg.org ride!! annual darby. Lets make the first one in OZ!!

I installed a DID X-ring chain and a Stealth sprocket on my '04 KTM 525 (540) EXC when it was new, and currently have 6,500 miles on this combo and it's still going strong!!

Hi bergersteve,

I'll concur with Ausberg, chaingang are very very good. They'll do a good deal on a chain as well and are very knowledgable. Give them a call. I'm using one rear sprocket to 2 chains and 2 front sprockets to each chain. The rear sprockets outlast the alloy ones 10 to 1.

Hey steve, how do you know what length chain to get. I have the spare from the spares kit but it is only 114 links, can we extend the chain to suit??? as in buy a few links? I would like to run 14,48 on my 450.....120 link??? If possible i'd like to use the spare chain????

I use one alloy rear sprocket and a "o" ring chain against 2 steel front sprockets. As soon as I see some serious wear on the front sprocket I replace it with a new one. After that one is worn too, the rear sprocket and the chain had there best time. Then I replace the whole lot.
I think the wear is really depending on the different situations.... around here we have a lot of mud and rain which is not very good for those parts....

What's mud and rain??????????

I've patched chains together in the past, but lengthening a new chain I'd like to use the same chain. Scrounge around at your local bike shop for the bits they cut off when fitting a new chain to something else and a couple of master links and you'll be OK. If its a Regina, I'd be wary though as they break with expensive results.

Has anyone got any suggextions for gearing, Ive just realised that Ive got a 15,46 combo going!! that seems very tall. Would a 14,46 be ok???
