just be careful, whilst they look the same and fit they are not the same, the 770 is the part number from the KTM 250 SXF 06 which was the first single oil filter for the whole motor, the 580 is from the older KTM RFS engines 2000 to 2007 & LC4. BUT these engines ran 2 filters to feed separate oil pumps then feeding separate parts of the motor.berglsmerg said:FWIW, a friend of mine had filters left over from his 08 650 and we tried them in his 09 570 then mine no problems as yet. Works for me as I can buy genuine @ $17 ea, hiflo filtro @13 ea or through a well respected aussie mail order specialist @ $7.50 ea in lots of 10. This is the oem part number for 2008 58038005100 and 2009 77038005044. 5 bucks difference and the only obvious difference is the 09 filter comes with a $5 o-ring
Another option is the scotts stainless re-useable filter that a few members are using here with good results.
yes the Hi Flow 655 KTM SXF EXCF 250 is the replacement aftermarket for the 770 which is used in the latest Bergs, im not sure if i was being conned by my old Hiflow sales rep but he told me that Hi Flow make the oil filters for KTM, i do believe him as the markings on the filters are identical. so if its true using Hiflow you are not sacrificing performance. K&N also have links to Hi Flow and also Twin Air airfiters are identical to Hi Flow except for the colour ones green the other is orange. Who knows who makes what for who.LadyBerg said:Would these be correct?

it listed as HF655 in description.
Thanks for the info you went a step further and called the manufacturer well done, your right about the oil viscosity as well because when the engines with these filters fitted came out the factory recommended Motorex 10/60 cross power.bbmckurt said:When I was a dealer and the 09s just came out, I put a call into Hi Flo...asked why not the hf155 because it looked the same as the new KTM boxed 09 oil filter but had a different paper color, etc. This is what I remember, although this may not be entirely accurate as I am over 40...
I spoke to someone in charge at Hi Flo and he stated that when KTM/Husaberg came to them to produce the filter, their requirements based on the KTM/Engineers did not allow the HF155 to work. Hi Flo had to produce a new filter for the Husaberg that had a finer micron filtration number as well as more pleats in the paper material...hence the HF655 and likely the recommended oil viscosity change from top speed 10/40 or 15/50 to a 10/60...
While the HF 155s will work, they are not filtering as required by KTM/Husaberg engineers...
the new bergs would have been separate gearbox and engine oil like the KTM but due to the configuration new 70% engine it was not possible to achieve for some reason, KTM also had some second thoughts about what they had done with the 2008 EXCR engine when they ecountered problems but they had gone into the development stage too far to turn back.berglsmerg said:Well there you go, thanks for clarifying that bb. It's still bullsh#t that the new filter carries a $ 5 premium. Cant see exactly the benefit of a finer filter when the old motors survived for ages with large micron crud being pumped through the motor.
As for oil 'pressure', by running a corse filter with lower viscosity oil ( delo 10/40 ) there would be more flow, this would be a good thing especially at idle ?
I can see the benefit in runnung the finer filter in extended service intervals, but I service my motor every three hours. My friends bike has 30 hours on it now with no dramas, I have put 50 on mine with no signs of accelerated wear ( in the top end anyway ) JMHO
