So which one do we use in the new generation bergs?/ HF155 or HF652. Did a search but nothing concrete came up??
I think it should be HF652

FWIW, a friend of mine had filters left over from his 08 650 and we tried them in his 09 570 then mine no problems as yet. Works for me as I can buy genuine @ $17 ea, hiflo filtro @13 ea or through a well respected aussie mail order specialist @ $7.50 ea in lots of 10. This is the oem part number for 2008 58038005100 and 2009 77038005044. 5 bucks difference and the only obvious difference is the 09 filter comes with a $5 o-ring

Another option is the scotts stainless re-useable filter that a few members are using here with good results.

just be careful, whilst they look the same and fit they are not the same, the 770 is the part number from the KTM 250 SXF 06 which was the first single oil filter for the whole motor, the 580 is from the older KTM RFS engines 2000 to 2007 & LC4. BUT these engines ran 2 filters to feed separate oil pumps then feeding separate parts of the motor.
The difference is when the factory developed single oil filter engine they changed to a finer micron paper in the filter. I would say the KTM short filter not used in any other motors but RFS in a special micron.
So if you use a 580 with larger micron paper you may not be catching all the crap that is developed by the clutch and its sending it all to your Big End, plus you have the problem of loosing some oil pressure maybe.???? never tested.
KTM went to separate engine and gearbox in 2008 to prolong engine life and counteract the crud from your clutch infesting your whole motor.
Even the old LC4 ran a another spin on steel filter in conjuction with the 580 to filter the crud, and the super comp LC4 ran whats called a dunny roll filter also called a micro filter in the KTM part description.
We learnt this at the KTM training schools when we asked why the price difference when they looked the same filter.
I not a fan of the mesh filters and dont use them i just like to replace the correct paper type as this design has stood the test of time in so many applications.
But then why does an older 650 Berg run a single 580, blow me away i dont know maybe coz there tuff ???? maybe run a 770 for better filtration ??? i never tried it. or will it effect oil pressure, dont know never tested it. the effect on oil pressure would be a marginal i reckon.

yes the Hi Flow 655 KTM SXF EXCF 250 is the replacement aftermarket for the 770 which is used in the latest Bergs, im not sure if i was being conned by my old Hiflow sales rep but he told me that Hi Flow make the oil filters for KTM, i do believe him as the markings on the filters are identical. so if its true using Hiflow you are not sacrificing performance. K&N also have links to Hi Flow and also Twin Air airfiters are identical to Hi Flow except for the colour ones green the other is orange. Who knows who makes what for who.

When I do the oil changes on my 2010 fe570 and the wifes 2010 250excf, the oil filters that I use are exactly the same part no. these were supplied to me through my ktm/berg dealer.

I questioned this and it has been confirmed correct.

I am on the 77038005044's (and on the Tooheys Extra Dry and Carlton Draught from the Tap  )

77038005044 - Fits KTM 250 SX-F/XC-F/XCF-W and all Husaberg FE/FX/FS 390/450/570 09-10
77038005000 Superseded by 77038005044

When I was a dealer and the 09s just came out, I put a call into Hi Flo...asked why not the hf155 because it looked the same as the new KTM boxed 09 oil filter but had a different paper color, etc. This is what I remember, although this may not be entirely accurate as I am over 40...

I spoke to someone in charge at Hi Flo and he stated that when KTM/Husaberg came to them to produce the filter, their requirements based on the KTM/Engineers did not allow the HF155 to work. Hi Flo had to produce a new filter for the Husaberg that had a finer micron filtration number as well as more pleats in the paper material...hence the HF655 and likely the recommended oil viscosity change from top speed 10/40 or 15/50 to a 10/60...

While the HF 155s will work, they are not filtering as required by KTM/Husaberg engineers...

Thanks for the info you went a step further and called the manufacturer well done, your right about the oil viscosity as well because when the engines with these filters fitted came out the factory recommended Motorex 10/60 cross power.

Well there you go, thanks for clarifying that bb. It's still bullsh#t that the new filter carries a $ 5 premium. Cant see exactly the benefit of a finer filter when the old motors survived for ages with large micron crud being pumped through the motor. :D

As for oil 'pressure', by running a corse filter with lower viscosity oil ( delo 10/40 ) there would be more flow, this would be a good thing especially at idle ?

I can see the benefit in runnung the finer filter in extended service intervals, but I service my motor every three hours. My friends bike has 30 hours on it now with no dramas, I have put 50 on mine with no signs of accelerated wear ( in the top end anyway ) JMHO

the new bergs would have been separate gearbox and engine oil like the KTM but due to the configuration new 70% engine it was not possible to achieve for some reason, KTM also had some second thoughts about what they had done with the 2008 EXCR engine when they ecountered problems but they had gone into the development stage too far to turn back.
These were some of the questions we asked when we visited the factory in 2007.

Stumbled across these:
Oil+Filter+Kit.jpg

Part number:
00060000061

It has the Oil Filter and Screen ( 78038015000 OIL SCREEN 12,5 X 56,5MM ) from the Crankcase in it.

I run the 655 in my 570. I have had problems with my bike and have ended up changing piston, bore, rod and bearings. The dealer i used at the time tried to tell me it was because i ran a 155 in it that i had left over from my 550. He reckoned it would have starved it from oil, i reminded him that these bikes have a safety relief system in them that ensures oil is supplied even when the filter is blocked. Turned out in my case there were outside influences that caused the damage to my bike, wont go into that here though! Husaberg Australia were great and supplied the piston and bore free of charge, says something about the "real" problem, huh!
Now that my bike is running again i will only run the 655 filter, i have my doubts that it made such a difference but i figure for a couple dollars i wont take the chance again!
It amuses me that guys will put their hand in their pocket and buy a premium bike but then want to skimp out on basic things like oil and filters!
