Yes, around $50-$60. Dealers should have them. Bought mine from BOSS 2 years ago.

RE: where to get spark arrestors for 08 AKRA slip on

I got one from the dealer for my Akro with the small opening. I wanted the larger opening one but they only sell it in europe, so I decided not to use it and instead created my own custon large opening spark arrestor by spot welding a different one onto my modified Acro silencer insert. Now I got big sound with big power. I doesn't meet db ratings but what do I care?

Pollo

You should care because noise is our # 1 enemy!
The stock sparky meets sound & makes great power!
Sparky inserts are 59.95 & in stock @ Boss!

Ditto.
Loud bikes loose trails :(

I got a stock spark arrestor. Its in my tool box. The bikes jettet with the bigger opening. And its got my custom spark arrestor. And its not that much louder than the other one but a little more HP. Give me a break!

I think the reason BOSS said something is because you said you didn't care if it was loud. You may not, but WE do, because once an area is closed, it is closed to all of us, not just the irresponsible and selfish ones who don't realize their actions impact all others.

I'm not trying to flame you or pile on to what the others have said, but you should care enough to realize what you do affects all of us.

Do you know how loud my bike is when I said Big power and Big sound? And do you know how much too loud it is over the legal decibles? And do you know where I ride? I might ride with Harleys that blow my sound away. I do ride trails. I don't hammer down throttle around houses, Border patrol Rangers and wherever else I think might bother someone. Maybe your afraid I'll blow a frogs ear-drum out. I know what I want and I got it. Why don't you check out my CRF 450 also. Bring your instruments and then go do a little servey at various off road areas. You might be surprised how many bikes out there don't pass sound test. So don't make me out to be the bad guy when you know very little about me just because I said WHAT DO I CARE.

Caring about sound output should be a concern to all. Noisy bikes are a major driver to close down access to the bush all over the world. We are generally out of sight in the bush, but not allways out of mind as we are heard by many. If they couldn't hear us, then they mostly wouuldn't know we were there, and wouldn't care. Just because other bikes are noisy is not an excuse for us to be too.

Frog health is a major indicator of habitat health, and we should care about frogs too. Responsible, sustainable and quiet use of the bush should be our goal.

Since were talking about Akropovic in particular, I was just wondering that if the whole world cared as much as us in the U.S. about sound then why is the larger diameter spark arrestor sold in Europe. Am I wrong? My dealer said it was available there. And if so, its OK for the frogs in Europe, since they determined it's not to loud for them.

pollo,
I don't think you are being pointed out or berated here. I'm sure that is not anyones intent. Your comment was an opportunity to bring up a very valid point. One that needs to be seriously considered and brought to the forefront at any given opportunity. We are at war, and we are loosing. We are loosing riding areas daily due to people that "Do not care". I personally spend no less that 60 hours a year doing community service trying to get this point out to the public. Between educating on noise, dust control, safety and tread lightly my free time is about spent.
There is nothing more discouraging than working an OHV area for 6 or 7 years only to have it closed down because a handful of idiots cant manage to stay on the trails. That or they absolutely have to have that extra 1/2 horsepower by running closed course exhaust. I have said it once and I'll say it again. There is only a handful of guys on this site that can use everything a stock Berg can produce.

Off my soapbox for now. Nothing personal pollo, nobody is trying to make you out to be a "bad guy". We are just trying to get a point across.

P.S.
As to the large bore Akropovic spark arrestor. I would imagine its popular in Europe because most of there riding is closed course. They have already managed to loose considerable amounts of riding areas. Just a guess on my part.

I've just dissasembled an Akrapovic slip on, and am confused, are we talking about the baffle that slips in? cos my baffle is just that, a baffle - it has no mesh or anything in there.

on monday my friend said that his spark arrestor / baffle had a domed piece of mesh on it, is that what we are talking about?

I thought oh yeah, well I can just tig weld a formed piece of stainless mesh in there if I need to, but I would expect that the baffle would all but achieve the same result in terms of arresting any spark or flash that occurrs inside the pipe.

Azza.

Berger,
I understand where your coming from, especially since recently a vast amount of desert land was closed to off road activity in Arizona because of the incredible amount of trampling of all desert plants. I believe the main problem wasn't sound, but careless riding and trails going everywhere. I stay on marked trails and where there is a sign,NO OFF ROAD ACTIVITY, I turn away. I have the smaller spark arrestor. Do you think I Would I need to re-jet my bike if I put it in?

The baffle comes stock. It doesn't have the spark arrestor. You need to order one, Probably Boss Off Road is good. It comes with the same baffle along with an extra l ength and spark arrestor mesh

azza,
Since I see your in Austalia, Boss Off Road might be a little far for you, Sorry. You can tig weld one on though. I did a little spot weld myself.

You should be fine with your jetting. Mine made no difference at all when I installed mine in my Akro.

that may work over there but in the USA i have to have one that SAYS " US forestry approved" does the one boss sales say that on the lip somewhere??

the forest rangers and enduro clubs check that when they do sound checks .. anyone know what DB range these bikes are in with the spark arrestor in??

thanks guys

I think your right about that mack. I didn't see that approval on my Akrapovic or spark arrestor. The spark arrestor I have is made by and for Akrapovic. I am currently using another spark arrestor that I made myself. It has a slightly larger diameter than the other one. I have tested them both and the sound is not that much more with the bigger opening. There all loud when you open them up. Some people were trying to make it sound like I was killing all creation with my pipe. They are not that different because i've heard them both. What I did notice was that it did suck some power out of it. I would say with the larger opening it feels a few HP stronger. I also think they both may not pass sound test. So, those with the small sparky should check whether they are legal also, unless your totally sure.
Let me know.

Now if you want a legal spark arrestor and quiet exhaust then the stock Husaberg silencer is probably the one. I have it. It came on my 05. It's very quiet and I believe has a built in spark arrestor. The 08's come with the Acrapovic and they are considerably louder than my stock pipe was even with the small baffle and spark arrestor.
