Well after a year on the back burner, I started to put my 96 fc 600 back together. All new valves, piston, and jug sent off and welded. only to find the rod is bent. :cuss: (not noticeable till the piston is on) SO i have everything to make it a 501 or do I spend yet another $500 USD ish for the rod kit???? It is a low serial number bike #22 off the line.

Hi

I think Taffy has some rods for the 600, but they are not very cheap.

Would you consider a used one ? Maybe I can find one.

I would stay 600 but that's just me. I think I seen the 600 rod on taffys webpage or maybe his eBay site for 300. Hell you have gone this far with it.....

I don't know? Write now it's hard for me to justify pulling the the trigger on another $500 just for a rod kit. I would consider a used one but would really kick myself if came apart two hours later..

Well you could always do the 501 like you said go back to 600cc down the road if you change your mind.

I would try to straighten the rod .(Only if the bigend and smallend are ok, otherwise it's a waist of time)
If you have good measering equipment, it might work.

Its bent about 1inch from the small end. would that weaken it? little heat and a press i guess and hope for the best?

I wouldn't try to straighten it. That's asking for a problem. Just my opinion. If it breaks its gonna cost a lot more than 300 to fix it. Fix it right or go 501.
