Hi all,

I have just purchased a new FE390- upgrading from my kTM 530, and before i pick it up was looking for info on what spares you would carry trail riding? anything different from the stock standard?

Any other new berg riders recommendations?

Also would anyone know if my ackropovic slip on pipe on my KTM will swap over onto the Berg? KTM is '09, Berg is '12
cheers

My only recommendations would be to carry a set of motorcycle jumper cables and maybe a small assortment of fuses.

Hi,

As far as carry spares would go just carry the basics, like Brake and Clutch levers, Tubes and repair kit, cable ties, spark plug and some fuses.

I'd also recommend running Ultra heavy duty tubes front and rear, depending on where you ride. I Completely smashed my front wheel, buckled, broken spokes the lot and the Ultra heavy duty tube stayed inflated.

I think your KTM muffler will fit the Husaberg, I purchased a KTM 2012 350/450/525 Akrapovic muffler and fitted it to my 2012 Husaberg, only thing is the Husaberg's don't have the sensor before the muffler so not sure what your KTM one is like.

Hope this helps,

- Thurston

Hi Stone,

I also have the 390, lovely bike.

I would upgrade the lighting, buy hand guards and a carbon header protector.

You don't need anything more.

For the lighting upgrade, I bought the PMXtec upgrade. the 65W bulb is included for free, but I went for a Philips 55W motorcycle bulb and kept the 65W as a spare part or for if I wanted to start hunting rabbits.

Before 35W:

After 65W:

For real spare parts, I only carry two handles and a 19" tube for if I destroyed either the 21"or the 18" tube.

I ride with a group of guys all riding diffwerent bikes. We all carry basic toolkit, 21inch standard tube (as it also fits the rear 18), 1xtyre lever, sparkplug, levers (or an old broken short one), assortment of zipties (electrical cable ties) & very basic 1st aid kit.
We all have radiator braces & wrap around barkbusters fitted and heavy duty tubes front and rear (you can then use the standard front tube as the spare you carry).
Left on the trailer at the car park is more extensive tool kit, a collection of old chains sprockets nuts and bolts, 50ml of 2stroke mix, small bottle of clutch fluid, small bottle of coolant, duct tape and beer.

We have always been able to atleast repair and limp back to the trailer with the only time of not being able to go back out onto the track being when someone siezed their 2stroke.

Everyone has a different opinion as to what to carry, and experiance will evolve yr choise. What I have come to know is that a bike that is well maintained and cared for is far less likely to have any issues. 9/10 x it is the bike that starts the day unwashed & unloved that we will end up having to repair.

Anyway, this is my 2cents.
Enjoy

I'm always the only chap to carry a mountaineering rope. It is small and extremely tough. One long one and one short one.

When we tow someone out we do it from peg to peg, which gives both parties a bit of control and it is more safe.

The rope is of course also very handy in deep mud or in ditches like this:

thanks very much for the replies- all the standard stuff thats in the bag at the moment (except the jumper leads- so thanks for that as the no kickstart has been a worry!).

road the 390 this weekend for 200km of light Enduro/trail riding and it was great. Ackropovic fitted well and gave it a bit more bark and a bit of extra go (so i think) as well, just need to dial the suspension some more and it will be a great bike.

thanks

Enjoy your 390. I love mine!

A note on the cables - I know there's some small ones out there, but I like this setup; I keep a battery tender on the bike to keep it fully charged. In my pack I carry a wire with the battery tender "pigtail" leads at one end, and two eyelet leads at e other. I made it out of an old electric vest cable. So this would offer a very compact way to get a boost from another bike. Just in case! Especially as I run a Rekluse, and can't bump start. I haven't needed it yet though.

Put on a set of Bullet Proof guards........

Radiator
swing arm

They have a rear shark fin as well, but, I run the Scotts as it is a single piece design and very tough

I also highly recommend the TM Design works chain slider kits, very tough and takes the chain noise level way down.

And a Scotts stainless oil filter for various reasons. Don't buy the other cheapie ones, there is a reason the Scott's is more expensive, its way better IMO.
