Well beleive it or not I have come across a brand new 2002 FE400 setting in the back of a small dealer. And I think I know why it has been setting there all of this time, the guy wants $6,000.00 for it which seems absolutely rediculous!!! New or not, once someone puts any time on it at all, it becomes a used 2002 bike. He did tell me that he was willing to accept any "reasonable" offer, I figured I might as well shoot him a price for a good laugh... Where do I start, what would be a good price for this bike?

I wouldn't be tempted no matter how cheap, but I suppose it is worth something. 3k tops, probably less, to be brutally honest. I think some dealers would sell you a non-current '05 for 6k.

A new 5 year old bike shows his willingness to negotiate. It'll probably be sitting for years to come.

I agree, 5 yr old "new bike", $3000 and you should check to see if the 400 needed the updated rocker arms, etc. If it does, that needs to be done before taking delivery. The factory paid for this update to be done.

Check the "Owner's Doc" on this site located in Main Menu on left.

Let us know what you decide to do.

Within a few rides you may also have issues with seals and rubber gaskets leaking all over cracked hoses and such, sitting does not do them any good, you may end up with many leaks...

I agree w/Ossaman. If the factory paid updates were done, 2003 rocker arm assemblies, counter balancer update and maybe something else, then it would be good at $3000. $2300-2500 with no updates. The baby 400 motor would still probably be O.K. for 70 hours or so without the updates.

Ideally the way to go is stay with 2004's and up. The 2003's had all the above mentioned updates and more but not the FCR carb and Kukosan ignition that came on the 2004's.
