I have a 05 fc 550 that has been revalved for 195 lbs with 4.6 springs for WORCS type of racing and it has 7.5 wt oil in it, and I was thinking it would be more plush with 5wt oil in the rocks?

Does the 7.5 wt seem to heavy for what I am doing?
Thanks for the help,

i ride on rocks a lot , i weigh 210lbs and run a fe650e . i have 2.5wt in at the moment and it works for me .-- motorex

7.5 is recommended by the tuners after the valving is done correctly. it adds rebound and the rider gets more control through the clickers.

keep with it and try it. come back, tell us what you think and tell us the clicker settings and we can discuss further...

regards

Taffy

Thanks!
I will do that and get back. I am having a 6 speed installed at the moment and I think that will help as well because with a 4 speed you are always ridding in a much higher rev range and that does load the susspension somewhat.

Hi mark550fc using 7.5 wt oil would make fork harsh and not good on
rocks . O.E. is 5wt which makes it better on rocks, Personally I use
Golden spectro semi synthetic but you have to mix 125/150(same as 7.5)
with 85/150 (same as 3.5) 50/50 which makes 5wt and oil height
125mm to 120mm
so long

People on the MX tracks like the 5wt. The lighter oil will give a quicker fork damping response and be more consisint from (cold to hot) heat range. As thicker oils might thin due to high heat. I have not tried 2.5wt.

I use 5 stl AMSOIL shock therapy sunspesion fluid and i have the better results from ever.my ex oil was the red wp 5 .this oil given from wp only at race teams.you cannot buy it from shops.but amsoil is the best.never stuck the fork.you can live with this for 5000 klm at list in the rocks.

I have tried all kinds of settings on the clickers with the 4.6 springs and the 7.5 wt oil with a harsh feel in most conditions. The revalve was by Moto-Pro for a 200 lb rider with GPs in mind. After playing with the oil hight multiple times with no luck I came to this conclusion. Fore most kinds of ridding the 5wt oil just works out to be more plush than the 7.5 wt they installed. The 5wt lets the fork react much quicker to trail junk. The 5wt just works better and I was even considering a mix of 2.5 and 5wt for a 3.75 wt. You know the more is better idea.
Well I hope this saves some time for sombody else. I now have six hours of testing and the forks have been worked on at least five or six times to get it right, even after the revalve. If I try the 3.75 wt and it has good results I will post.
Very Happy now with the 5wt.

Thanks for the help,

A bit on the heavy side but it's up to you, experiment with different height or volume of oil. 5W and you'll be safe.

Others use 2.5W, for instance that's what Wilkey from MX-Tech recommends and I'll tell you guys how the MX-Tech tuned suspension is working on my Berg (that is what I can raise my arm over my shoulder, duh).

i agree with everybody so far, but remember that you have a suspension system that is made up of several variables: springs, valving, oil viscosity, air gap, and the terrain and way you ride. the final results you are looking for vary from condition to condition. changing the oil viscosity is like raising the needle jet in the carb - almost imperceptable.
