Since I can Remember in Hobbies, I had always been more fun and pleased when is just a Hobby, let me try to explain, when I start Mountain biking just as a Hobby, it was nice, just riding for the pleasure, me my brother and some other friends, then the sport growth and I start on a new bike, my Nishiki Manitoba's was not right for that first races, and the also the new GT, and then also the yeti, after that I start to realized that wasn´t as fun as it was when we just ride to visit new woods and look at the views, the same happened with my Sailboat, I bought an old J24 with old sails, the first year it was very nice just to go with my girlfriend on those days now my wife and some other couples sharing the time, the old tape recorder, and nice bottle of wines, with pepperoni, jam, cheese, beer and Cuban cigars, those days where the best, but then I started to put some money on the boat, new sails, new paint, new deck, new clits, ropes, etc, etc, because yes I want to race, then after many, many regattas and a lot of winnings not 1st places but good ones, It wasn´t as fun as that old boat. Then Cars, the same happened, and now bikes, this weekend I am invited to an Enduro national Championship to go and compete, after a few days thinking what I should do, I remember all that experience in other sports and I came to the conclusion, that I am not going to do the same mistakes as the other sports, I want to enjoy my bike as I am enjoying now, I have to beautiful kids I have many things to loose and I am sure that I a not going to win, but if it was miracle and I had the first place It would never give me the joy that I have now with my small trips sharing with my friends.

What do you think??

Cheers

NEW CLITS?........anyone got a 30 ft sailboat they'd take a 99 fe400 for?........hahahahahaha

Its really all about balance rica roel,i would encourage you to experience a national enduro but it is up to you as to how you handle the emotions that come from this experience. In the past you have stated that you have allowed your envolvement to be consuming.
Since there is always something new and fun to try, sooner or later you must try and learn some balance.Do the enduro and then go ride with your friends...may as well start now!

Motorcycles are my livelihood and have been for the past three decades. Personally I enjoy what I do every bit as much as when I first started.

Note:
I quit competing when my wife was pregnant with my first daughter. Part of my decision was the result of witnessing a paralyzing injury and then pondering how terrible it would be to never hold my child.

Oddly enough my first went on to compete through her teen years. :?

If you are hesitant, go with your instinct as you are more likely to get hurt when you have such on your mind.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your comments, but It hasn´t been always about consuming or spending money, its about the involment in the competition, for example when I ride my bicycle just for fun, I did not trained and eat special and weak up everyday at 05:00 on the morning to train and make better lap times, you got me now¡¡¡

But you are right is all about balance¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

Hola Compadre, In my humble opinon, ride the enduro!
1) Your bike is race ready, no?
2) Ride at your own pace, don't force the issue. Enjoy the course as you would a ride with your amigos.
3) You will have race stories to tell your ninos por muy anos en el futuro.

Bueno suerte jefe,

Bueno suerte jefe,

I find such difficult at best. Once a racer always a racer.
After the girls were grown I tried "Just For Fun" racing. For me it did not work. When the flag drops ones perspective can instantly change. lol

Hey Rica
I say do the ride, lower your expectations, remember your other commitments in life and stop this 'giving up attitude'
Vamos vamos !!

Dale, Perhaps rica can resist our urge to twist that right grip to the stops all day long.

Perhaps, although his obvious competitive nature may get the better of him. I know it does me. XR 100's, Bicycles, Tuning, etc. It truly makes no difference. lol

Abstinence does work. Should an alcoholic have a beer? :?

Tough call from the outside looking in.

I say follow your natural instinct whatever it may be. You alone will know what is right for you and what is not.

It's always a coin toss, take Doug Henry for example. He is retired from MX and supposed to be doing SM for fun.

Cheers,
Dale
