What brand/model of chain were they using in 2009?.. I keep mine pretty well maintained and it has pitting on the side plates... I have about 50 hours on the bike that I got this past spring...
I'd guess it'd be a Regina as these seem to be most common.
Mine snapped last week during a road ride and I've since replaced with an RK branded 520. General opinion is that an alternative (to Regina), option could be better for longevity and performance... DID have a good reputation too.
