Been riding a KX450 09 for a few years now but am getting more into trail riding as work has stopped any track time, few mates have bergs now and rave constantly about them them, there a te300 fe390 fe450 all fairly new and just looking for peoples opinion on what they think is best, i am liking the sounds of the big 570 but am open to anything i will be riding a lot of single trail through the mountains and a bit of open stuff to.

Cheers for the help in me joining the family

Welcome,

I am also new to the berg, but I purchased my 570 last fall. So far it has been a blast to ride. My first thought was wow, how light this feels. I love riding single track more than most. So far the 570 has eaten that up with ease. It will be tested further this coming summer.
My buddy just bought the 2012 300. I hear they are wicked fun. Also they come with a fairly big tank compared to most.
Good luck :bounce3:

Welcome burt313, I too own an FE570 and I love it. I live in SoCal and we most of our riding in the desert, we ride rocks, single track, sand washes, hills, rock gardens, etc. The only time the 570 is a handful is if you have to physically lift the bike over stuff otherwise it is a total blast to ride. I would like to get a new te300 but since they are red sticker bikes I will still need/want to keep the 570.

Depends on your skill level. The 4st bergs are amazing as long as you can keep them shiny side up. Anytime you need to lift the bike up and over, or pick it up, it will wear you out quick.

Also, for some reason they have absurdly high seat heights, so if you're vertically challenged you may want to keep this in mind.

Cheers for the input, I'm quiet tall so seats height is not an issue. I wouldn't say I'm brilliant but I do believe I can handle a bike so I'm not to worried about having to pick it up to often. I rode my mates 300 today and loved the tongue that thing has but did find the ride a little spongy but I guess I'm going to have that with what ever I choose coming straight off a motorcross bike. I really am thinking the 570 is my best option, I think the fe450 is just a little tame compared to aggressiveness I enjoy from my KX.

that 450 set on aggressive with an akro fitted will be plenty, in fact it was too much for me!!,usable power is what you require unless your after huge triples or ride motocross a lot just traded mine for a te 300 11 so fingers crossed i like that :D

If you go for a 570 I recommend to invest in a recluse as you do go trails. A recluse, apart from being fantastic on its own, can be used to control the power of a 570. When its slippery go one gear higher and the back wheel will grip instead of going all over the place.
The 390 shines in tricky trails but is, imho, to weak in the open. Sold mine last year and bought a 570. I guess a 450 is a good compromise, but I havent tried one. I cant say anything about the TE, never tried one.

I wouldnt worry about the 570s weight, at 114.5 kg my -12 is only 0.5 kg heavier than my 390 -10.

I'm well happy with my 390 for weekends out in UK mud, loose rock and limestone and for me its faster over a long stretch or lap. Depends what gets your grin meter going ? If I had access to more open country and fire roads it would be the 570 for sure. IMHO cant see the point in the 450 now we have the 300/390/570 choice.

The answer is obvious, FE650, the rest are all too slow, girls bikes

I have the 2010 FE450 having come off a 08 KTM 280XCFW and even though the 450 feels light, it doesnt seem as flickable as the 280 was. BUT when it comes to those long rocky uphills the 450 is gods gift compared to the 280 running out of breath. Both of them had the rekluse which I swear by. I keep getting tempted to go back to a 2 smoke but every time I try one I can't wait to get off of it and get back on the 4 stroke. I borrowed a 2012 KTM 250 xcw thinking I would love it only to do three loops and say "That's enough for me"! The 450 just seems to want to keep going straight through whatever is ahead of me whereas the 2 smoke wants to kick up and out and bounce all over the place. Absolutely no confidence and faith in the 2 smokes as appealing on paper they are. There are some incredible deals on leftover 450s and 390s right now so I wouldn't hestitate to grab one. Why someone needs more powere aka 570, unless your doing serious street use is beond me. I had a 520 years ago and the only olace I could use the throttle stop was out at Dumont Dunes with a paddle tire.

And if you plan on riding in the moutains FI is the ONLY way to go! I love how the husbabergs air intake is so high, I got mine stuck in an underwater rut where I came off the bike doing the breast stroke yet the bike sat there with just the very top of the tank above water and it was still running!!!!!!!
