All, I am digging in to do some 100 hour maintenance on my 02 470. The bike has been a pleasure to own-not a single issue. I have just ordered a stator and flywheel from Motoxotica because mine is looking like is is going to fail at any time, it is very corroded and has lots of cracks in it (even with sealing the cover and all... I guess i was not drying it out as much as needed) and i noticed the bike is not charging and starting as well as it had after the last few rides. but other than that it has been a dream. valves have always been spot on and never any metal in the oil. I did have an issue with jetting but i got that sorted out.

Now i am looking at what i need to do to make it worthy of another 100 hours of fun. I have taken the rocker cover off to inspect the cam, rockers, bearings, etc. and am a bit mistified as to what i woould look for that would give me hints of impending failure. everything LOOKS good but i have a very novice eye.

I am wondering if there is a way one can tell if by some chance the bike left the factory with the 03 parts instead of the 02. I ask because i am trying to figure out why mine has not given me any issues as of yet.

(although it could be that I just ride like a big wuss! although that last few rides i was on i was able to keep up with my "A" level riding buddy and we were on some very hairy terrain)

I am not quite understanding what Taffy is talking about when he describes the difference between the 02 and 03 rockers. does any one have picture that i can reference?

should i change the cam bearings just to be on the safe side? they are relativley cheap are they not. as well as the chain and cam sprocket while i am in there.

any suggestions?

I have pictures of the updated rockers in my gallery.

Why don't you consider using the 05 cam, cam chain, sprocket and autodecompression device. Thats what B.O.S.S. is using and he says it works great. I am planning on using the 05 parts in my 01 470 this tear down season (summer).

told by my dealer yesterday that they are having to change the camchain fitted to huskvarnas after only a few months of racing. apparently they're running the D.I.D chain in those.....

so it'll be interesting to find out how our '05s are doing in the 450 and 550 imparticular.

regards

Taffy
