What 650 conrod do I use?? 02 or 03 ??

Hello there, Some parts turned up today for my 02 fs650,and a new conrod was one of them.Problem being that the rod length is 1mm longer 135mm between centers compared to the old one of 134mm. Going by some of the other forums this is of an 03 model.Can this be used with out any problems??
Do I have to use a thick head gasket? or is there enough of a gap between the piston and the valves? Is this a "cheap"way of getting more compression ??All the over forums say they can be used but make no mention of any "ädjustments" that have to be done.
Its taken 4 months for this to get here to me in New Zealand and if it takes another 4 months for the right one to arrive I will be getting "scratchy"

don't ask us, go and ask the "over" forums! what doe we know?

weed has some great photos in his gallery of the piston coming up nowhere near the head.

suggest you stick the piston on the old crank assembly, put the linar back on and do a dry run as was. if the engine is not yet stripped then it should be apparant that the piston is like 3mm below the top of the block.

i can't see what the fuss is. only that if you want the right answers yer check for yourself and stop being so lazy! compression will be fine.

i would even consider the 2006 dished piston, that's what people fit when tuning these things!

Its the correct one, 135mm. 2003-2004, 82mm stroke.

(Taff!! Where you upset yesterday????)

Remember that this rod is for the newer pistons 2003-2008.
I would change to the light OEM Elko piston from 2006-.
This will give you a nice output.
Otherwise just check so your squish height is more than 1mm and less than 2mm, then it will run just fine.

With the old 134mm conrod there was as much power as a moped!!!
If used we run it with a100mm 470cc piston, heavy as nothing else.

Thanks for that. I went back into town yesterday (its a 270km round trip) to have a measure up and the piston sits 2.16 mm below the top of the cylinder with the shorter conrod.I will fit the longer one one in and have a measure up.Will order the 2006 piston kit on monday.
Didnt mean to upset you Taffy ,what I meant by the other forums was some of the questions on this web site. Enjoy the New Zealand beef in your british supermarkets some of its come from our farm. So far 6 cows have been sacrificed for pay for parts.
