I was thinking the same thing... Is it one of those, bite you and kill you snakes?

no fellas its only a carpet snake.they look big & scary but are harmless.snakes are cold blooded , so they lie across the tracks soaking up the sun, they are only likely to have a go at you if you stir them up.soon as i see them i lift the front wheel over them,if you are going at a fair pace they haven't got time to stand up at ya.the bloke coming behind you might poo himself though.
you can even play with the deadly browns & taipans when the weather is cool ,because they move so slow, but come late spring or summer ,no way they are way too quick.
do you blokes outside australia have snakes in your state forests or are we the only lucky ones?
..weed..

Rattler at Kennedy Meadows, California.

He just slithered on through camp and our dog made a lunge for him. My shovel was faster!

saw a wildlife programme over here and you have two snakes over there that look identical (nearly!). red, gold and black.

you have a saying for which is ok and which is lethal?

they are only a foot long and skinny as a fountain pen?

Here in Michigan, we only have one version of poisonous snake, "eastern Massasuga rattlesnake" It's a little guy (3') and it's pretty shy. The bite is not typically deadly to a full size adult. They don't like confrontation, and usually scurry away. I've only seen a few in all my years.

Have been in Maine since '68, haven't seen any rattlers, supposedly none here. Eastern rattlers in Vermont, and Massachusetts has a normal population.
When we were riding in the CalNevAz deserts back in the early '60s ( sound old, eh?) we used to catch and kill the big rattlers, skin and cook them for dinner............; also good for breakfast with eggs and chilis!

Hey Weed, now that I know that is just a harmless python (jelly snake) I'll have to find the picture of the massive black tiger snake (3rd deadliest in the world) that I came across on the trail.

Till then check this out for wildlife... (may need to zoom in on it to get a good look 'cos picture is small)

Hi, azza.........
Can't recall. That was back in '67/'68. We'd been on an Ocean Station just north of Bermuda, caught three. Another pix attached. We butchered them, had shark steak for any crew-members interested. Also attached pix of the Castle Rock.
