I have a 2001 Husaberg FC 550. It is leaking water into the crankcase and then blowing it in the frame through the breather. I have replaced the water pump seal and the inside bearing and seal. I have also replaced the O ring on the top of the case. Any Ideas on what to do next.

How did your misfortune come about?
Example:
what were the conditions and / or circumstances, etc.

What is the severity of the leak?

Does it leak only during operation?

My suggestion:
Completely drain the engine oil and coolant.
Fill the cooling system with water only.
Let the bike sit for several hours minus the radiator cap and see if you still have a leak.

No visible leak?
Pressurize the radiator to 30 psi and search for a leak.

No visible leak?
Disassemble and closely inspect the entire engine while on the lookout for poor engine sealing and / or cracks.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Dale

as has been previously mentioned; the 'O' ring in the left cover can overlap with the older gaskets. look out for that.

headgasket is an obvious one?

have you done any work on the bike at all?

I changed the head gasket and water is still leaking into the oil.
I drained the oil and then filled the radiator with water. With the bike just sitting water didn't appear to leak.
I pressurized the radiator with approximately 6 PSI and water began dripping out of the oil drain plug. I couldn't pinpoint the leak or hear anything.
I assume the next step is to split the case and inspect. Any suggestions on where to place the most attention.
So far I have changed the water pump seal and the inner bearing and seal at the water pump. I also changed both the o ring at the case and the o ring on the waterpump shaft.
Help!!
P.S.
Does anyone know where I could get a repair manual that would cover a complete engine teardown like the one I am about to do. 2001 FC 501.

hissyberg,

You can download the 2001-2003 Workshop Manual from our downloads section (see the 'Downloads' link under Resources, to your left). It is in 2 parts, so you will need them both. The quality of the file is very poor, so the figures are not very clear.

The 2004 manual is available from the factory web site, for free also. Go to downloads, other. The process is the same, the cluch is slightly different as is the cluch basket attachment from the 2001.

Sounds like the same problem I had !!
I did change all the things that you have change.....and it still leaked !!

I can tell you for 99.9% shure it is the three O-rings around the cylinder bottom (on my bike 2 had melted and 1 was completely broken)

So you have a couple of hours of work in your garage....it's not that hard to change.
I managed to change them without disassembling the crankshaft it's kinda tricky but it's possible.

Good luck man !!

Thanks guys, it was the three o rings on the cylinder. I replaced them and the monster is roaring again.
This forum is great.

i'm building mine up after the same problem as well and will be able to report within the week what the problem wass.

of the three 'O' rings one had broken and i didn't use silicon.

let ya know soon.

i will upgrade this as a 'common cure' on the husaberg owners doc

Sorry for spamming the forum with this but I need some advise since a longer trip is coming up.

I just screved up myself. Installed the wrong gasket.
The dealer said he gave me the right one so I mounted it on the cover side not double checking engine side.
Started it up and ran it for 30 seconds when I noticed the milky window.

Nonetheless my fault. What do I do now ? Just change oil or do I have to split the engine going through every bearing ? My limited experience says that coolant/glycol eats bearings if run warm in any engine. The engine wasnt run that long though in this case. Anyone else that have experienced this ? And fixed it ?

Thankfull for any help

just change the oil and get the gasket right this time!

you won't have any other issues. you can also wash the oil filter out in a bit of petrol and that should be enough.

i always copper grease both faces of my sidecover gaskets before fitting to the engine and then the cover. if i don't get 25 years per sidecover gasket i get disappointed. all the money i save pays for my trips to the USA...

I have now changed the oil. It took 6 litres before all the water was out. The first four were the ones removing the water, 5:th was to be sure nothing was left and I now run on the 6:th. Running the engine a few minutes between every change.

But I think my case was a bit extreme. I think it was half a liter in there.
And dont let the gasket lie after wetting it with oil - it swells.

Motard training yesterday and it ran perfect. Now happy again :)
