Hi friends:
My fe450 `09 has around 150 hours. My last 20 or so hours of riding, I´ve heard that that the water inside the radiators is constantly boiling.
I don´t know if its a problem of the engine (which is heating too much for any reason, maybe soon to change piston and rings?) or it´s a problem of the cooling system (something is blocked and preventing normal functioning and flowing of the coolant).

Engine has enough power still, no smoke in the pipe, so I don´t think it is an engine problema, but I DON´T KNOW FOR SURE.

Let me know what you think.

I always check if the the coolant if full in the radiators every ride.

Are you sure it's not fuel boiling? Fuel boiling seems to be a more common concern. Do you run a fan kit?

No, it´s not fuel boiling it´s water, I did checked that.
No, I don´t run a fan kit and I´ve never needed it before this problem ocurred.
Thanks for asking anyway.
Hope someone can tell me possible reasons.
Another mechanic told me that maybe my valves need adjustment.
The other day, the engine was so hot that I lost my clutch (maybe because the oil became so hot it boiled too)...

Check your valve adjustment. My 550 did the same thing this summer. Tight intake valves, long slow technical uphill. Smoked my clutch slipping too much, got wicked hot. It was well over 100 hrs since I checked them

Lets try a fan kit and clean the fin's on radiator thouroughly. If your ambient temp is over 80F or your riding consists of alot of low speed work, you need a fan kit at minimum.

Ahhh yes, Berger is right too, the fan kit is money well spent. I put one on this summer also, haven't boiled yet in the same places she use too. But my problem was not the lack of a fan kit. My bike never "failed" to perform before I put the kit on, it just perfroms better IMO. good luck

Dear friends:
I respect your opinion about a fan kit, but this is my second Husaberg FE450 2009 and I´ve never needed one.
I ride expert level (fast almost every time even in very technical terrains). I ride here at 2.800 meters above level or higher (9.200 feet) and temperature is below 20celsious (80f) almost all year around.
I am my second year in the new FE450 model from Husaberg I´ve almost never boiled water in the cooling system before so I guess it´s a: 1) engine problem, 2)cooling system problem, 3) valve problem, thermostat problem or any other problem that heats the bike to much.

Greetings.

At 2,800m the boiling point of water is about 90.5°C.

Check that your radiator pressure cap is functioning correctly. If in doubt, replace it.

Dear GregUK: Thanks for your answer.

Yes I did check that. The problem isn´t the cap, it it fine. The problem is the water constant boiling even when I ride in open terrain with no difficulties.

Greetings.

blown head gasket?

i was thinking the same thing.
put a pressure tester on the system and see if the psi keeps climbing.....

Which is the HEAD GASKET? Could you explain more or send pictures please because the native language here is spanish and even though I looked for head gaskets as an OEM part in husaberg there were nothing which I could relate to.

Thanks.

Sebastian

Part Number
78030036000 CYLINDER HEAD GASKET

Is the Exhaust/muffler blocked? Maybe a spark arrestor blocked in muffler? That's just a wild guess, think I like the Head Gasket theory.

Start the bike when cold. Open the radiator cap. If you see bubbles in the coolant its probably a head gasket issue.

PEOPLE PEOPLE: My mechanic found the problem. It wasn´t a gasket, it wasn´t the radiator cap or anything you said (allthough all of your theories made sense).

It was a damaged cooling system part (i don´t know the name in english) which preventing the water to flow correctly. So there wasn´t any water flowing and that´s why I heard water boiling all the time inside the hose near the motor.

We had to replace this part and problem solved.

Thanks anyway.

Hi: My FE450 `09 was overheating all the time. Water was boiling like it wasnt ´flowing properle. After lot´s of theories and mistakes trying to fix the problem the dealer got it. The problem was that the helix (airscrew, propeller) of the water pump which was damaged.
Maybe you should check that if you here water boiling inside the motor or the water system all time.
Greetings.
