I'm still trying to get it to start on the button....it did before.
It seems the engine comes up to compression and stops dead, the starter can't turn it over. I've checked valves all is well. I decided to put a dial indicator on the exhaust valve to see if I was getting any movement on the compression stroke ....seems I'm not getting any. Could it be I don't have the spring wound tight enough and the cam roller is pushing the adc over to make it ineffective? Any ideas? I should have some valve movement, Correct?????

Yes, if the automatic decompression does work you do get a small valve movement in the compression stroke while cranking. It is best to open the lid and have a look inside to see what is wrong. The answer is in there for you.
