Just got myself one of the above & have read the very informative handbook that comes with it. Quite happy with Oil & Filter changes and all that stuff, but I see valve clearances need checking at 3 hrs & subsequantely every 15 hrs.
No idea whatsoever how to do this, and a little disappointed that it does not show you how to do this in the manual, dont want to be down the dealer every month ti have them checked.
Googled Hus 570 valave clearance, and there is some useful info, but nothing particular to the 08 450/570's....anyone got a pointer to a useful resource for doing this check, or can expand on how to do it...greatly appreciated

There was no 570 made in 2008. Do you mean a 09 570 or a 08 450/550/650 ??

Yes its the latest FE570, now daft is it to be called the 09, as far as I was aware this year is still 2008!!..sorry about that

Hi Chris,

The workshop manual is not yet available, not even for the dealers. But since the cylinder-head is "borrowed" from the KTM EXC models (the ones with single overhead camshaft) you might find more info on KTM-Talk.com.
Anyway, although I have only checked the clearance on my bikes and not adjusted them (not necessary) it is all very straight forward.
Only downside for you is: if you need to adjust you'll still have to go to your dealer for the shims...

To get to the valves you will have to take off the seat, tank, drain cooling liquid, disconnect the radiators from the top hose and hang them aside.
Take off the black top-cover (4 bolts, one on the right side is not so easily accessible) and, hey presto! there they are, easy to get to.

Make measurements, if you need to adjust, dismount the rocker arms ť you have to take out the rocker arm shafts from the right side of the engine (not completely sure here as I have not done this yet). Now the shims are accessible.
Take them out - note their position- , calculate the correct shims, get them from the dealer and the rest is the reverse of the above..

Hope this is of any help,
Cheers, Adriaan

Hi Chris,
Exactly as dustbite said really, there is a long bolt from the opp side of tim chain that you take out and then look through while you turn to get tdc and you look down the bolt hole and see a V when its right, then feeler guage.012.
The good news is you will not need shims as you will not need to adjust the berg, they are same as 08 ktms and my 530 read same for 2000miles.

Cheers, Nick

RE: Re: Valve adjustment on 08 FE570

Thanks Guys for the info, have been mooching around on the KTM Site and there is good info on there, especially as the Hus has basically the same cyclinder as the EXC. Sounds to me like this valve chacking at 3 hrs shouldnt really be necassary then, especially as a hobby use bike. Think I will probs run it to 15 hrs and then get the dealer to service & check the valves, obviously I will change Oil & filters at 1hr & 3hrs though myself

Hi again Chris,

There's one good reason to check the valves at an early stage: you want to have a "reverence" measurement moment. How else can you tell that the valve clearance has changed over time?

I had no problem with the clearance check on the old bikes, on the new bikes the access is even better, both intake and exhaust. Although it is necessary to drain the cooling liquid.

And although I think that the building process of the engine is closely scrutinized, my trust in the factory workers on the assembly line is not so great. I found quit a few loose bolts on the chassis.
Seems to me that the muscles of the Austrians are not as strong as could be, perhaps lack of oxygen because of high altitude?

Last tip: the two plastic screws that hold the rear-fender and the black reinforcement plastic together tend to work loose during a ride, use locktite to secure & check it regularly.

Merry Christmblablabla but a very good new-year with many miles on the new pride-n-joy

Your dealer should be able to provide you with a hand out on how to adjust the valves. It's very simple, and includes the steps listed above.

And I agree with dustbite, it's nice to have a reference or benchmark for the valve lash.

For clarification the lashes are as follows:

Exhaust cold: 0.12 to 0.17mm (.0047-.0067")
Intake cold: 0.10 to 0.15mm (.0039-.0059")
