Having just recently picked up my '02 FE400, I'm planning some rides. On top of doing some basic maintenance, I was looking into state/national forest regs for riding different trail systems. Looks like I need to have a spark arrestor on board.

The bike has an aftermarket Big Gun exhaust and I can't find anything out about the exhaust/can or spark arrestor on Big Gun's web site. Anyone have any insight on the Big Gun system and/or others that are out there in case I can't get a USFS approved spark arrestor for this one?

Thanks, Q

They should be available. I sold one to Dezduster for the last Moab trip. There is a picture of it in my gallery. You can get the entire endcap and screen. It was somehat reasonable as far as price goes. Make sure you order an extra screen.

only problem is i need it for a 1998 not the 00> club not that rich anymore i can get a can made from them at about 500 bucks i already called them thanks a bunch though i appritiate the effort there

Having just gone through this, I can say that if you have an older Big Gun you will need to get the machined version of the end cap (pre 2000 (?) was stamped metal ). Also you may want to get the newer grid tube for the center as well. I drove to Big Gun and they set me up for cheep. I decided to cut my old center tube to fit the new end cap. Took about 10 minutes more to do this. While you're at it, you can drill two extra holes for the end-cap to get a good solid fit--old ones had two scerws. AND, if your can has screws holding the backend cap, ask them for the steel pop- rivets. This is much better than the screws...in all it took thirty minutes to swap everything out. I found a 1999 Big gun with alumicoate headers brand new in the box for $200 on ebay :) The newer headers are much better than the 98, much cleaner and clears the frame/engine better. This set-up made my fe600 a little more perky as well--now it's at the shop getting re-jetted.

MBERG501...I saw a Big gun on ebay for $100...type in husaberg and it comes right up!

That is a big gun race series, I have one on my boys TT-250, can you say LOUD?? Is not 93db, more like 98-99db.

Big Gun

I've purchased several B-G exhausts for 'bergs and KTM's and I now have a spark-arrested one on my low-hour '01 KTM 640 LC4e. It's not too loud, but I have had some problems with pitting on the alumicoate header. I let Big-Gun know and was a bit disappointed that they weren't interested in replacing or recoating the header pipe. It seemed like pretty poor quality.

RE: Big Gun

I've got the same issue on mine. The Hindle on my Raptor seems to be oh the highest quality but I do blow the spark arrester after about 1-2 hours in the sand. That is my only complaint with there full system. It is VERY loud though..

RE: Big Gun

i made a spark arrestor for my early big gun by cutting a circle out of the wife's stainless screen collander and forming it over the baffle tube (the big gun quiet baffle). its not labled usfs approved, but any ranger with fingers can find it.

Ned,

Does your wife know the collander is missing?
