I recall an exchange I had in the chat room a few months back with one of you desert types about the use of slime to prevent flat tires. Could those of you who successfully use slime post your favorite mix of slime and preferred tire pressures, front and back? I'm preparing to swap some tires, and want to set up for the long, dry, hot summer :D here in Oregon. I figure if I start now, I'll be ready for the summer of '06, cuz it's raining right now (still).

I put in whatever it says on the label. I slime all of my tubes.I have yet to have to repair one of MY tires on the trail yet.

For those of us who haven't used slime, and plan on doing so, just remember that you need to pump some air through the tire valve before checking pressure once you have been running with slime to clear the slime away from the inside of the valve stem. If you don't, you will probably get slime into your pressure gage, and get a bad pressure reading.

Once you have slimed your gage, take it apart right away and clean it with water before the slime sets up. Some of the digital gages are not serviceable, so slime will ruin them!

I've been using slime for a long time now and have had great results.

I had to laugh about the slime plugging up your air gauge posts, b/c that happened to me. I told myself not to forget to blow some air in first but, seems like I always forget!

I use an air gauge with a 12" whip that seperates the connection at the valve stem, to the actual air gauge. Anyway, I finally ended up with this big clump of slime spoog stuff in the end of it and had to blow it out with compressed air. This big clump of stuff shot across the garage and stuck to the wall.

In addition to running slime I also run the 4mm thick bridgestone tubes. Been using the same tubes for over 3 years. I also put a good dose of baby powder in the tire, and on the tube whenever I change tires. This really helps to keep from pinching the tube when you're putting the tire on. It also seems to help cut down on the amount of rubber stuff caused by the normal chaffing that occurs.

Where can I find some information about slime?

If you have any trouble finding it over there, give me an address and I'll send you a couple of bottles. It's the least I can do for you helping me out with the tire rubbing on the header of my 04. That should be enough for 4 motorcycle tires.

They also make a special blend for tubeless tires too.
