Hello folks..update and another large arrow to point me in the right direction...

After meeting my fellow inmate taffy on friday I've manage to fit uprated clutch...clutch works sweet now...also fitted kick start mod..(chippys chisel great tip)..i can now feel the engine spinning...whilst rad was off adjusted tappets which I used a piece of wood to hold up my tee bar on the crank so tappets could rock at tdc...instead of that bolt method.....

Right..fresh fuel..no choke..first kick...and yes she fired up...woop woop..longer stroke on kick start made alot of difference..and im hopeing tappets did too..BUT now the arrow.....

As she stood idleing she did sound more..tappy..so maybe tappet clearence a little big..but went to rev her and she just died..phut...tried to start but no joy..although she spun over well and you could hear the puut..puut...puut...left her whilst stuck kettle on..came back..fired up..again first kick..up and down road...came to stand still...left ticking over..go to rev..puut..stalls

Not sure if not enough fuel..or to much..o yes after tappet adjustment my decomp cable really slack now...still works but now needs adjusting

So guys hope you can understand me.. basically she feels and sounds better since tappet adjustment but now seems to stall when I blip throttle .....

Thanks fella's...

Interesting that it starts with no choke. How does it run once properly warmed up,say 5 minutes?

gotta be too rich on pilot and when throttle cracked, can't take the new rush of fuel. my 650 with a dellorto would always start with next to no choke, but its usually pretty warm here

Yes my thoughts too..recently got and fitted a taffy spruce up kit for dellorto..i left the original 40 pj in instead of taffys 38....it was warm today too.....i will change and s

Not had it running much more than 5 minutes at a time as stalls but seems sweet...

Thanks fella's

i think a a tappet nut has come undone?

you need to find out if it is electrical or fuel related.

I shall check nuts first......

Your spot on taffy..1x tappet nut loose..1x tappet nut awol..but spotted it resting on camchain and manage to retrieve..

Redone tappets..fired her up..ran 5 mins then...stopped as before..removed rocker covers and yep..as before one nut off one nut loose (exhaust every time)...now after first incident im pretty sure I did these up tight although I did not use a torque wrench..am I embarrassingly weak or something more sinester.....

To add to this the decomp is not working..looks like theres a groove worn on to of rocker arm so when you pull lever to turn decomp spindle its got nothing to push down on....

Is it best to replace arm..or will taffys decomp mod work without changing it...many thanks fella's

there's nothing wrong with a little wear on the arm. just adjust it out....

regards

Taffy

Thanks taff... but what is there to adjust..with the cable disconnected the decomp arm hits were the external spring clips to ...without touching the rocker arm if that makes sense...seems like the rocker arm Isn't high enough although I have to move them down to slide decomp arm in....

without touching the rocker arm if that makes sense
not to me.
the adjustment comes from the threaded cable mount about 5cm behind the pivot arm, and the in-line cable adjust by the handlebars.
if you still have the kickstart cable connected, take it off.

Sorry guys can't sus this one out bare with me...

Im guessing when you pull lever on handlebar the ' L ' decomp shaft turns clockwise..because theres a notch in the shaft over the rocker arm, as the shaft turns the edge of the notch pushes down on the rocker arm opening the valve..

With cables disconnected I can manually turn shaft clockwise till it hits the cam allen key were the spring hooks on..so can't rotate anymore..the edge of the notch does not touch the rocker arm

Im guessing auto comp not working as once its at tdc it won't move

Sorry fella's..for something so simple im making a meal of it..unless something missing/broken

Again your patients appreciated
