went to a meeting last night at mildenhall in suffolk. sponsored by black bear HD of newmarket, a few riders did a few laps and then the bikes went on display. we then had a mee tthe rider and when it was all said and doine we got on at 8pm which was an hour late.
we'd been waiting for the ambulance....
anyway, the riding is a little quicker than last esason but noticibly better at the front. CCM entered 3 factory (sic!) riders and they were all very good and the bikes tracked well and handled superbly.
darren pearson was there again only this time i THINK i saw his old bike plus an '06 FS650. this tracked well but the old girl was a bit of a pig. one or two others were on husabergs such as rob manchester and james heaton and they gave a good account of themselves.
pearsons style on his SM was to keep the wheels in line and whilst the track was speedway shale he struggled. many others had a mixture of drift, wobble, drift, wobble. this tells me (dale!) that their sussies are still too soft!
the genuine speedway chassis still have an advantage and do look the part.
the sport has had an influx of speedway riders and they have one helluva an advantage i would think.
it was only last night i found out that peter boast - the series organiser - is ex-mildenhall fen tigers speedway captain. also darren pearson him, self was there for one season.
two guys came over from holland of which one made the final, also with marco belli coming from italy and struggling this season you do ask how much longer he'll bother.
there were just 500 spectators on a georgous summers evening and this is little reward.
not sure where it all fits in?
two speedway bikes went aroud during the interval and made them look bloody stupid to be honest. backing it in and then full power all the way round. the two machines literally cleared the track of shale on the inside for the rest of the meeting to go ahead as we reached the semi's.
pearson stormed his semi and had first choice of grid in the final but alas, having taken the outside where it is devoid of shale he had to take the corner iuyt wide in the soft stuff. after this he couldn't take the long way around and had to steal up the inside when he could see a ***** of light.
he got up to 3rd/4th behind two of the CCMs and it wasn't a bad result i don't think.
talked to a bloke who is racing a 600 monster in the twins afterwards and have offered to help him.
parson couldn't be found....
like i say, needs more MEN that know how to ride on bikes that don't put the frits up the guy behind. THEN it might look better. the heats need to look like the final and final wants to get even better.
sponsors are onm stand by but they will question it too if the commentator can't stick a microphonme under a few noses and introduce us to a few characters.
regards
