Hi Guys,

Bike 09 FE 570 :D :D, 1215 kms, 37.4 hrs, 98% bush riding, Regular oil and filter changes @ 5-6 hr intervals, Oil used is Motorex Cross power 4T 10W/50

I have just done my number 5 oil change and found some unusual goo in the main screen and around the oil filter.

When I removed the main screen to clean it I found it to be 60-70% full of this creepy looking crap and the outside of the oil filter about the same.

This is a big worry because oil flow would have been significantly reduced.

To describe this stuff I would have to say it is soft, rubbery, jelly like and is what I would imagine dissolved silicone sealant would be like or a bit like a booger but not as sticky.

This stuff would not dissolve with petrol or carby cleaner, it had to be blown out with air!!

I will try to upload a photo.

This is the first time I have found this!!! Has anyone else come across this problem.

Thanks Steve

Hey Tazer,

thats some wierd looking $hit in/on your filter. Have you done any other work to the bike apart from oil changes of late ? I can't imagine what would cause that especially after doing regular oil/filter changes without using silicone somewhere. Have you had a ride where you were on the clutch overly or something ?

Good luck with it. I'll be watching this post to see what eventuates.

Is it possible that this goo was in a bottle of oil that you put in, and you just couldn't see it?

I've had synthetic oil that wasn't 'fresh' go bad in the bottle. It kind of died inside and came out of the bottle in a snotty gooey lump at the last 200ml or so. The bottle was almost a year in my possesion and was not stored outside or exposed to extream temps. It was cracked open when I went to use it. Of course, I had to dump everything a couple of times to get it all out of my bike (Luckily it went in the Ducati...non cleanable oil filter).
I'd vote for...the oil was old and was snotty like that in the bottle before you added it. My fix...I now only pour synthetic into any engine with a funnel and watch it for another snot globule...I haven't found another glob but will always watch now. Was your oil bottle old? I didn't think mine was either.

Ive seen this a few times,

I'm not saying that you've got the same problem though

so just FWIW

with a dry air filter or even just in extreme conditions, fine dust can get into the engine, blow past the rings and end up in the oil.

If i get a bike in with a really dirty air filter there is usually sand or black sludge in the oil filter.

Ive seen globules in old unused oil too dunno what thats about.

Thanks for your input on this Guys,

And in answer to some of your questions: there has been no other work done on the bike, no dusty rides, all oil has been new from sealed bottles and I am quite sure I would have noticed anything out of the ordinary when adding the new oil.

The oil I have been using is from a 4 Litre bottle which I have checked and have found no sediment or residue in the bottom just nice clean looking oil.

I have just added another photo of the same stuff about 20hrs later, the oil has wicked away into the paper but the goo has turned back into liquid 8O it seems to just be an ingredient in the oil! :?:

BTW The stuff you see in the later photo is an oily substance not water.

But what has caused it to coagulate :?: :?:

I have contacted Motorex via their web enquirey page, see if they get back to me!

If I don't get to the bottom of this I will definately consider changing to another brand of oil.

Steve

This is only a geuss. To much air filter oil, or water pump shaft seal running blue coolent.
