I have a 97 FE501. When i got it, it didnt have anykind of speedo or computer on it. Since it is street licenced, i woudl like to get some sort of computer or speedo on it. A few of my buddies have and like the trailtech computers, but they dont list one for my 97'. I'm sure i can make one work, but dont know which one. Anybody have any sucess putting one on a earlyer one, if so, which one?

If you don't get a favorable response from someone who has already fit one, you might E-mail or call Trailtech with the part number/model number of your Brembo Brake Caliper. You could even send they some good pictures of the Brembo on the bike. The problem is finding out how to adapt an existing Integrated Sensor/Cable assembly to the Brembo.

Regards,

Joe

Get the ICO dual sport puter! I had a trail tec that did'nt hold up.

Not sure what comes with a Trailtech, but these things are not too complex of a system. The bracket is most likely the biggest issue. Mounting a sensor (pick-up) should not be particularly tough. You could do it as easily as drilling a hole, then "gluing" the sensor in. The magnet can almost go anywhere on the rotor, as long as it doesn't hit anything during its travel, or the calipers travel, and is located so the sensor can "see" it. The "perfect fit" bracket for the unit itself is another story, and I don't know that answer.

Good luck keep us posted what you find.

PS- There is NO reason you could not get this to work, so don't give up!!!

ok. guess i'll have to give trailtech a call. I know they even make a universal kit, but its for inverted forks. As for now, i decided im gonna make due with tryign to mount my GPS to the bars. It tells me speed, max speed, average speed, stopped and moving time, and odo. As long as im not in real heavey tree cover, should get my by.

I used to have a KTM 'bicycle' speedo on my '97FE501E, but I have replaced it with an older ICO unit while still using the KTM pickup unit. The hardest part was to find a magnet that works, and I did finally buy a Trailtech magnetic bolt that should have replaced one of the mounting bolts of the disc brake, but it did not work out this way-not enough clearance. So I have squeezed it in between the disc and the hub, and the cable between the pickup and the receiver unit is running along with the brake line.
If you want to, I can make some pictures and either PM them to you or post them. Just let me know.

Franz
