Torque limiter shimming and testing

Can it be done on the bike without removing the torque limiter by just taking the side cover off?
Or would it be best while the cover is off to go ahead and pull the clutch and tighten the spring on the sprague clutch???

Most guys replace the torque limiter, and while I've heard of some guys retoquing it, I'm not a fan, as if your efforts fail, so do some very expensive parts.

Replacing the sprague is the only way to stop it from slipping. It functions by using binding friction with teh pawls. Through time, they get glazed and worn, and slide in the cup. I've tried all sorts of burnishing techniques to 'fix' them, but to no avail. Once the curve of the pawls is altered, it will not function properly. Replace the pawl assembly and the outer cup and you'll be all fixed up.

if you're working with a slipping torque limiter, it pulls right out when the cover is off, but you have to disassemble it to get it tighter. getting it apart requires a good six point 16mm socket and some heat.
finding a good .015 washer was more than i could do in my little town, so i just machined .015 from the shaft stop instead. seemed to work. use red loctite and a lot of torque to reassemble. (don't remember the torque value)
