Hey all

Back again, cant get the big *****(2002 fe 650) to start other than towing behind car and dumping clutch in 3rd or 4th gear.
Electric start turns over motor until u let decomp go then it just stops.
All decomp gadgets on and look right .
No way to kick motor over unless you hold in decomp.
Local agents and 4 other experts have no advice other than 'You have too much compression!"
Bike runs well when going!
FC 550 does not have kickstart decomp and kicks over easily?
CONFUSED
RONALD

Yours is definately a decompression issue.

Is the kick start activated decompression system intact and adjusted properly?

Your auto-decompression device (works during e-starting) is probably worn out or the spring became unwound or simply lost its tension.

Obviously your manual decompression is O.K.

autodecomp for sure. until you fix it, it will never start on the button, and if you don't do the upgrade to the newer style decomp shape and spring, a stock replacement will not last long. but learning the kick starting drill using the handlebar decomp, mine starts first kick (unless you truck it 20 miles in the cold with the fuel on  )

Thanx
Kick start decomp working now, removed someones mod on inside of kickstart mechanism and now it comes in and releases as it should.
E start still no good but will re visit complete assembly on cam (centrifugal decomp) and re fit
Cheers

I´m just about to install the new autodecomp, and wonder if i have alle i need. Do i have to take out the cam to change the autodecomp and spring? And if i do, will i then have to "open" the camchain?

in my opinion, the k/s decomp is worthless on a 650. i took mine off. if kicking, i just use the bar decomp to get it a hair past tdc compression, release and kick.
its the cam autodecomp that allows you to use the starter. and the early 650's ate them for breakfast.
