Hi,

Does anyone know why the sprocket teeth aren’t symmetrical?

First I suspected it was due to wear since I needed to replace the timing chain but when I got the new sprockets they looked similar. I couldn’t see any wear at all but when I assembled the motor the valve-piston clearance increased from 0.9 mm to 1.4 mm.

FYI: The auto decompression stop screw is replaced by a fixed stop on the –05 timing sprocket.

I dont think the valve to piston clearence can be affected by the sprocket. That is unless you are saying the valve timing has changed. Are you using a thicker head gasket? I am having a hard time with the gear being symetrical part. Do you have pictures?

I have used the same gasket all the time. It's the old gasket and I have tightened all screws on the head to the torque limit.

I only noticed that the left and right tooth flanks aren’t identical.

Quite likely the result of poor quality control. Unfortunately such is common in particularly regarding the main bearing case bores.

Perhaps JoeUSA will share his latest adventure with you. Joe recently purchased a new 550 for which he promptly disassembled the entire engine prior to operation. His well documented journey through the heart of Husaberg will astound you.

Joe,
Forgive me if you had wished to keep this quiet.

Sincerely,
Dale

I don't know what to say. 8O
If it would have been in the other direction, a decrease, it could have been expensive.

Hi Dale,

Yes, I had intended to only discuss the great results of the effort, and I need to get through the break in period before I do that.

Regards,

Joe
