Hi guys I'm working on a hybrid ktm rfs where the deck height isn't matching up enough to keep the timing chain tight. I was told the berg parts will fit and are a different pitch 10mm instead of 8mm on the ktm. If true it would give me the extra length I need on the chain.
The parts fiche doesn't show being able to get a link by itself does a berg chain even split to go on like a ktm? And then peen the rivets on the master? It seems to be made by d.i.d any chance the chain is available after market? The parts fiche shows the longest one is only 70 links for the 650 and that seems really short unless they mean 70 side plates. The ktm uses 96 pins or 48 plates.

if you know the exact centres, they can calculate for you, you don't have to buy.

secondly, proper gear people will make you discs that you slip on at the cam and the crank and try a chain on.

third. you have a 53 chain and the husaberg runs a 67 chain. There's also the 213 chain. your 53 chain has 5mm rollers but the 213 chain has 4.5mm rollers.

our 67 chains come with a split link but neither your 53 cam chain (I believe) nor the 213 chain have a manufactured split link. so, you just keep a few links back and use a new one each time. very unsatisfactory.

any chain can be closed up with a tensioner blade big enough...not the point though is it? but it does mean you have some variability.
Also all pistons have an option on different deck heights. on the Husaberg we can get 12.0 all the way up to 15.5mm for instance. different base gaskets under the cylinder as well.

finally, our biggest cam chain is 82 link not 70. we also ran directly off the end of the crank back in 1989-2000. mainly because your engine was designed by our people for us but stolen from us by your people for you!!!

In order for my engine to work with a 0.4mm lower cylinder head, I had to go to 213 chain and sprockets AND instead of 18/36 like a KTM/Sherco/Beta; I went to 17/34. All this was calculated for me by "good people".

Thanks taffy, I owned and rebuilt an 08 450fe and did not remember the lower cam sprocket wasn't on the crank so that's why the chains are shorter than rfs. I know about all the available piston heights and just don't want to deal with making a batch of custom pistons for one engine. And I can oval the sprocket to degree the timing. I just can't make the chain length work out with stock pitch I'm right smack in the center of too tight or way too loose. If you ever adjusted the main chain on an Timbersled snow bike you know my frustration...

So are you saying the Berg chain comes with a reusable master link? If so that would explain why it's not available by itself.
 
So I'm waiting on a 67 chain and lower gear but my US supplier just told me they're back ordered for 3 months. Any other sources? I'd buy used if possible.
