Hi guys any advice. On my 1999fee berg when I shut the throttle (round slide dellorto) the revs take a while to slow down. This is a new problem. The idle is good when it gets there. The valves are adjusted right. I know idle can change which is a sign of tight valves, but this is perfect idle. perfect revs up but the throttle shut down, hte revs die down slowly.

I have thought of sticking throttle cable, but slide can be noted to clunk to botton correctly. What would cause this?

you could have a very lean mixture to cause this. cut a bit more slack in the cable and check the end areas for fraying of the cable.

regards

Taffy

Since it is a new phenomenon perhaps it is about time to clean the carb and make sure everyhing works in it including floats and valve.

This also sometimes the sign of a vacuum
leak between the carb and head.Your
enrichening circuit might not be closing
all the way also.Let us know what you find.

Haven't had a recent upside-down with the engine breather still connected to the frame? Is it possible to get so much oil back in the carb & down the main jet that it will temporarily block up idle jets? I reckon I found oil in mine after a lie-down once.

throttle hang up

The cause of your throttle hang up is most proble a air leak.
While the engine is running spray crc or wd 40 around your your carby and intake manifold. When the wd 40 is sprayed over anywere were air could be leaking in the revs while drop. Keep in mind it is a 99 and it is 2005 the rubber could have cracked try that see how you go. otherwise drop me a line

thanks guys. I will check it all out. It is a new problem, and it could be something to do with the throttle cable, although it goes back ok and the slide clucks down. I will check the ends and the carb elbo which can wear and maybe bind.

I suspect an air leak. I have the over the tank pipe from the rocker cover so no oil can get into the carb.

I have inspected the rubber flange as it shows some perish, but it is sealing correctly. That enricher circuit sounds interesting is that something in the carb that can click on and off or be blocked.

this run on when throttle closed hints at air getting in, but where. Throttle slide looks good so no air sneaking around there that I can see. I will try the spraying of wd 40 on the bits when motor going to see for the leak but any other suggestions.

This bike has been great. over 25,000 km of dirt and tight enduro only with only a few roller rockers replaced!! No other repairs, use castrol r sythetic 5/60.

I have had bergs since 92 though.

While checking the throttle cable, check for whether it could possibly have gotten down in the steering stop and squished.

it could also be a worn carb or slide letting air get round the slide not shutting the air intake check the slide and the carb body as taffy has sad the delortos wear out

think it is solved

put new throttle cable but it was not that. I think it may have been the spring above the slide not sitting right, not sure what effect it had but I have checked its location and problem appears solved. Maybe not enough pressure to hold it down and steady at the throttle closing. I do use the light dellorto throttle slide spring also, but have done so for some time.....appears solved fingers crossed.
